Job Title: Biological Scientist


Location: Bethesda MD 20892

Position Summary: The Biological Scientist at the Center for Alzheimers and Related Dementias will support biological experiments manage human biological samples for nextgeneration sequencing and genotyping and coordinate with clinical sites. This role involves tracking sample status and information for reporting purposes and contributing to manuscript preparation and presentations.

Minimum Education:

  • Masters degree in biology genetics or a related field

Responsibilities:

  1. Laboratory Work and Sample Preparation:
    • Perform basic laboratory experiments and procedures.
    • Prepare human patient samples for nextgeneration sequencing and arraybased genotyping.
    • Normalize DNA concentrations plate samples measure concentrations via Qubit etc.
  2. Coordination and Communication:
    • Lead the coordination of sample reconciliation and serve as the point of contact for clinical sites collecting and preparing patient samples.
    • Address questions from sites about laboratory requirements and other labrelated queries.
    • Work collaboratively with other biologists and independently on clinical laboratory studies in genetics.
  3. Administrative and Documentation:
    • Provide reports on project status and work with administrative/project staff to document project logistics and timelines.
    • Maintain and organize various lab samples supplies and equipment.
    • Track sample information in electronic spreadsheets and laboratory notebooks.
  4. Support and Development:
    • Assist in preparing presentations and manuscripts for internal staff and external community.
    • Document all experimental protocols in laboratory notebooks for replication and troubleshooting.
    • Learn new laboratory techniques and procedures.
    • Assist in drafting and testing new methodologies for projects and manuscripts.
    • Troubleshoot equipment and plan new experiments independently and in teams.
    • Lead decisionmaking with sites about sample preparation and shipment logistics.
    • Help implement new protocols as needed.

Deliverables:

  • Monthly: Meet with lab members to present updates.
  • Daily: Document new and existing experimental protocols and results.
  • Weekly: Manage electronic sample information.
  • AdHoc: Develop manuscripts and presentations.
