Position Overview:

The Geotechnical Department Manager is responsible for leading the geotechnical engineering department overseeing all related projects and managing the technical and administrative staff within the department. This individual is in charge of ensuring the delivery of highquality geotechnical services and solutions tailored to client needs while also meeting all technical financial and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and management to the geotechnical engineering department fostering a collaborative work environment.
  • Oversee the planning design analysis and reporting of geotechnical projects including deep foundations slope stability excavation support and ground improvement.
  • Develop scopes of work schedules and budgets for geotechnical investigations and design projects.
  • Conduct and supervise field exploration sampling and insitu testing activities.
  • Manage project teams and coordinate with other departments or external consultants and contractors for multidisciplinary projects.
  • Review and approve geotechnical reports proposals and engineering analyses.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards best practices and company quality management systems.
  • Ensure the department maintains uptodate knowledge of advancements in geotechnical engineering techniques equipment and software.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships involving business development activities such as writing proposals delivering presentations and participating in professional organizations.
  • Manage the financial performance of the department including resource allocation billing and monitoring of project profitability.
  • Ensure adherence to workplace health and safety policies and regulations within the department.


Requirements

  • Bachelor s or Master s degree in Civil Engineering specializing in Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is essential.
  • Extensive experience (typically 10 years) in geotechnical engineering with a thorough understanding of geotechnical design and analysis soil mechanics earthworks and foundation engineering.
  • 2 years managerial experience in leading staff and managing geotechnical projects.
  • Familiarity with geotechnical software (e.g. gINT PLAXIS or GeoStudio) CAD and GIS applications.
  • Strong project management skills including financial management scheduling and contract negotiation.
  • Excellent problemsolving abilities and decisionmaking skills.
  • Capable of building business through positive client relationships and business development acumen.
  • Effective communication skills both written and verbal with the ability to present complex technical information clearly and concisely.

Physical Requirements:

  • Willingness and ability to perform fieldwork and travel to project sites as required.
  • Capable of working in various weather and terrains.
