Overview

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive eye examinations to assess visual acuity and overall eye health
• Diagnose visual abnormalities such as nearsightedness farsightedness and astigmatism
• Prescribe and fit eyeglasses or contact lenses based on patients visual needs
• Identify and manage ocular diseases such as glaucoma cataracts and diabetic retinopathy
• Provide pre and postoperative care for patients undergoing eye surgeries
• Offer specialized services including low vision rehabilitation and vision therapy
• Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to manage systemic conditions affecting the eyes
• Utilize advanced instrumentation for detailed ocular examinations
• Educate patients on proper eye care practices and the use of prescribed visual aids
• Maintain accurate and updated patient records and documentation
• Stay abreast of advancements in optometric technology and treatment methods
• Participate in community outreach programs to promote eye health and awareness
• Manage and oversee optometric practice operations and staff
• Adhere to legal and ethical standards in optometric practice

Required Qualifications

• Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an accredited optometry school
• State licensure and board certification as an Optometrist
• Proficiency in conducting comprehensive eye exams and utilizing diagnostic equipment
• Indepth understanding of ocular conditions visual anomalies and treatment options
• Strong clinical judgment and decisionmaking skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities to interact with diverse patients
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team
• Detailoriented approach to ensure accurate diagnosis and treatment planning
• Commitment to ongoing professional development and continuing education in optometry
• Knowledge of insurance and reimbursement policies related to optometric services
• Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems and practice management software
• Adherence to professional and ethical standards set by optometric associations
• Willingness to engage in community outreach and educational initiatives
• Ability to manage time efficiently and handle a varied caseload
