DevSecOps Engineer

Position Summary:

Key Responsibilities:
Deploy and Configure Services: Utilize infrastructure as a service (IaaS) providers such as Amazon Web Services Microsoft Azure Google Compute Engine and RackSpace/OpenStack to deploy and configure services efficiently.
Serverless Monitoring and Management: Install and manage serverless monitoring tools understanding serverless architectures and ServiceOriented Architectures (SOA) principles. Analyze execution events and invocation errors and measure resource consumption.
SLIs SLOs and Error Budgets: Work closely with product and engineering teams to develop Service Level Indicators (SLIs) and Service Level Objectives (SLOs) and monitor error budgets to ensure high service reliability and performance.
CI/CD and Monitoring Architecture: Develop robust architectures for continuous integration and deployment (CI/CD) as well as continuous monitoring enhancing operational efficiency and system resilience.
Containerization Technologies: Install and manage containerization technologies such as LXC Docker and Rocket supporting the creation of scalable and isolated application environments.
Security Management: Apply expertise in API Security Container Security and AWS Cloud Security managing security user roles and performing vulnerability assessments to maintain system integrity.
Linux Server Management: Configure and manage Linuxbased servers for dynamic website hosting ensuring high availability and performance.
ClusterBased Computing Debugging: Debug clusterbased computing architectures identifying and resolving system bottlenecks and ensuring seamless scalability.
Scripting and Automation: Utilize scripting or basic programming skills for problemsolving and streamlining operational processes through automation.
Configuration Management Tools: Install and manage configuration management tools such as Puppet Chef Ansible Salt and Gitlab ensuring consistent environments and configurations.
Open Source and Standards Compliance: Work with open source solutions adhering to specific standards for data delivery and contributing to the open source community.
Requirements:
Bachelor s degree in Computer Science Engineering Information Systems Mathematics Business Accounting or related degree.
10 years of total work experience in systems development
Ability to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance
Proven experience in engineering complex technology solutions with a strong emphasis on DevSecOps practices.
A significant preference for candidates with experience working within the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) or similar agencies within the Department of the Interior.
Familiarity with the Water Mission Area at USGS and its technological and operational requirements will be highly regarded.
The ideal candidate will have a track record of contributing to or leading projects that align with the mission objectives of the USGS particularly those focused on leveraging technology to enhance environmental research water resource management and geographical sciences.
Proven experience in engineering complex technology solutions with a strong emphasis on DevSecOps practices.
Proficient in deploying and managing services using major IaaS providers and serverless technologies.
Experience in developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines containerization technologies and continuous monitoring systems.
Solid understanding of security principles including cloud security container security and the management of security roles.
Strong Linux system administration skills and familiarity with configuration management tools.
Effective communicator capable of explaining technical concepts to nontechnical audiences.
