The Safety Specialist will report to the Head of Safety Compliance & Assurance. The primary responsibility of the post holder will be to provide specialist safety guidance and advice to the Hawk Operation. They shall promote safety at every opportunity and ensure compliance with the MC&A Safety Exposition and supporting procedures.


Core Activities

  • Management of the Safety Management System (SMS) within SIMS (MEMs) & ASIMS (DASORs) ensuring the facts surrounding Air safety related issues are accurately recorded.

  • Provide feedback to MEMs originators on closure.

  • Create safety performance measures, collecting and analysing data, reporting on the MEM & DASOR position e.g. Open / Closed / In progress / Overdue.

  • Provide monthly inputs into the Safety meetings e.g. SCAR, PSR, QSB w.r.t. the SMS.

  • Review new MEM s carry out an initial assessment, alerting the HoM & HoSCA if an Emergency Safety Response Group needs to be called.

  • Review closure evidence to ensure it s effective, prepare inputs for the Safety Response Group (SRG), Occurrence Response Group (ORG) & Meda Response Group (MRG) for consideration.

  • Provide specialist assistance for accident / incident investigation.

  • Co-ordinate Maintenance Error Investigations (MEI), managing the timely progression of actions. Provide guidance w.r.t. Root Cause Analysis and support the wider team in effective action closure.

  • Provide specialist assistance for the hazard management process. Undertake detailed analysis of issues, trends and repeating themes and report on their hazard impact.

  • Maintain the threat lines & barriers within the Bow Tie toolset.

  • Provide advice, information and coaching and ensure a safety culture is promoted, provide education across the team, reinforcing HF philosophies explaining how people s actions contribute to personal safety, the fleets continuing airworthiness and Total Safety.

  • Work within the Safety Management System (SMS) acting as a key interface on all safety matters with all concerned personnel. Promote safety at every opportunity and ensure compliance with the MC&A Safety Exposition and supporting the use of the Functionally Mandated Procedures (FMP s).

  • SMS communication - Administer, produce and distribute material in support of the SMS.

  • Liaise with all stakeholders and co-ordinate activities to support the maintenance of the SMS.

Key Accountabilities

  • Performance indicators Ensure the effective management of safety activities by setting delivery targets, monitoring progress and developing performance improvement programmes. Prioritises activities within/across teams to maximise efficiency. Represents the Safety Manager at management reviews, where necessary. Responsible for the assessment of escalated issues for any impact on Continuing Airworthiness and generating effective resolution, or sponsoring escalation to management, as appropriate.

  • Completion of activities Ensure all safety activities are appropriately documented and airworthiness records are maintained on relevant systems (IT / paper based). Ensure all safety activities are performed by suitably qualified, experienced and authorised personnel. Ensure the integration of safety activity within the Operation, including the engagement of key stakeholders at all stages of the process. Provide support and guidance to the team(s).

  • Procedure/standards Manage the safety team(s) compliance with the Safety Exposition, its associated procedures and standards, and any other Company procedures and standards, as applicable. Identify, propose and implement change as required, whilst ensuring compliance.

  • Safety Management System Promote the application of Human Factors, Error Management, Risk Management and Safety Assurance within the safety team(s), together with the proactive analysis, mitigation and management of Hazards.

  • Management System Assurance Ensure safety team(s) activities are compliant with the MC&A Governance and Assurance framework. Undertake Process Confirmations and independent assurance, manage the response to MEMs, DASOR & MEDA findings in a timely and appropriate manner and provide information into the relevant reviews. Generate and implement effective improvements within/across teams to overcome any non-compliance and monitor effectiveness.

  • Statutory / Regulatory & Legislative requirements Able to demonstrate a good understanding and application of the relevant Continuing Airworthiness Regulatory framework, and ensure any Regulatory-driven changes are implemented within the safety team(s) activities. Ensure compliance with all other requirements, e.g. ITAR, EaPW, ISO, etc.

  • A relevant degree/ HND or HNC, or relevant/equivalent vocational experience.
  • Experience within the EASA/CAA/MAA (AMO or MMO) regulated environment, preferable with aircraft operation or aircraft maintenance experience.
  • Functional Competence & Capability.
  • Relevant knowledge, background and satisfactory experience related to Aircraft Maintenance and Support operations in an availability contract environment.
  • Ability to support a continuous improvement culture underpinned by use of appropriate management reporting systems and escalation processes.
  • IT Literate.

Qualifications Academic qualification for this role is a minimum of City & Guilds 2675 or 2661 in Aeronautical Engineering and Maintenance or equivalent. Typically, 2+ years experience in aircraft maintenance Requires general product knowledge/competency within own technical/subject area and a basic knowledge of those elements in other areas. Awareness of how the team integrates with others in order to achieve the overall objectives of the area and demonstrates an understanding of the requirement for continuous improvement and its application. Hawk Composite Flight Servicing- Pass. (Desirable) Hawk Trade Q Course- Pass. (Desirable) Leadership- Foundation. (Desirable) Human Factors- Standard Course Specification. E&PW Awareness- Standard Course Specification. (Desirable) ITAR Awareness- Standard Course Specification. (Desirable) IT Literate.
