Northern College of Acupuncture | Registered Charity Number:The NCA is a small, progressive HE provider registered with the Office for Students. We re based in York City Centre and have an excellent reputation for training practitioners in the UK and beyond. We offer BSc degrees in Acupuncture and MScs in Nutrition and Chinese Herbal Medicine. Our values: We aim to be a person-centred, progressive, sustainable community, embodying integrity and quality. The Vacancy: The NCA is looking to recruit an Acupuncture Course Director for our BSc in Acupuncture. This is a prestigious post leading one of the most highly regarded acupuncture courses in the UK. Our acupuncture course has been running since 1988 and has been a degree course since 1995, currently recruiting an intake of 30-50 students each year. It is accredited by the British Acupuncture Accreditation Board and validated by the University College of Osteopathy. You ll be responsible for leading a committed and highly capable teaching team, delivering and developing the course and supporting students, as well as contributing to academic strategy and policy across the College. Teaching on the course is a mixture of classroom and online delivery, and there is an acupuncture teaching clinic at the College. Our ideal candidate: Essential: Degree level or equivalent qualification or experience. Qualified Acupuncturist. Proficient in IT and able to pick up new systems quickly. Excellent standard of English, social and communication skills, both written and spoken. Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team. Strong commitment to supporting students education. Management experience and ability to delegate where appropriate. High level of organisation and planning skills. Proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to bring ideas to fruition. Lives close to the College or can reliably commute regularly. Desirable extras: PGCert HE or willingness to work towards this qualification. Member of BAcC. Experience working in HE educational management. Practitioner of Chinese Medicine. Strong academic background in the delivery of a clinical programme. Job Type: Full-time or part-time Number of hours: 28-36 hours per week - Our preference is full-time (36hrs) but we will consider applicants who can work very flexibly for at least 28hrs/week over at least four days. Tuesday-Saturday. Saturday work will be required around twice a month. Hours of work: Flexible working hours and an element of homeworking can be discussed so long as the needs of the College and the Students can be met. Regular weekend working will be necessary, to cover induction days and support for weekend students, and the successful candidate must be able to work Thursdays (when necessary) as Thursdays are the College s meetings day. Salary: Ranges from level 21-25. The Course Director salary starts at level 21 ( 37,806.16 pa, pro rata). Progression to level 22 comes after successful completion of the 6-month probation period. Following this, increases in levels are based on skills, experience and qualifications. For info, level 25 is 42,848.15 pa pro rata. Assist in the recruitment of new students to the acupuncture course: o liaise with the Marketing and Admissions Manager to provide specific course information (when necessary), participate in interviews, follow up with prospective students when appropriate and attend introductory days. Manage the delivery of the acupuncture course, liaising with teaching staff and Student Services and ensuring quality. Take the lead responsibility for the continuing development of the acupuncture curriculum. Liaise with the College Manager to recruit and induct new tutors to the acupuncture course in conjunction with module leaders where appropriate. Participate in the College s Performance Review Programme and undertake appraisals and performance feedback for module leaders and the Clinic Education Lead. Chair Boards of Study, student progress committees, and other meetings of teaching staff for the acupuncture course. Attend meetings of the Academic Board, Academic Team and Management Team, and attend other meetings with staff as necessary. Assist the Principal in the maintenance of accreditation and validation of the acupuncture courses. Provide student support and liaison and maintain complete student records. Provide emergency cover for clinic supervisors and acupuncture tutors. Attend College meetings as required (these usually take place on Thursdays) Participate in the College s Performance Review Programme. Other tasks as required.
