Summary

Hours: Mon-Fri, 8am-5pm
-This is a 100% onsite position. Remote is not an option.
-Temp to hire after about 6 months.
-Training period will involve learning Encon's products.
-Will work with Engineers on new product development.
-Must be able to understand, read and create CAD drawings.
-Basic understanding of Engineering principles required.
-This is a design role; they will turn their designs over to the Engineering team.
-Interview process: video call + in person interview.

Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent experience.
2-5+ years of related design/drafting experience and CAD/CAM required.
Proficient with AutoCAD, Inventor or Pro-E, P&ID and Microsoft Office Software.
Industrial electrical design experience with knowledge of NEC.
Knowledge of ASME, ANSI, ISO and CSA standards is beneficial.
Knowledge of ratings and specifications of valves, fittings, tubing and equipment.
Excellent interpersonal - verbal and written communication skills.
Initiative-taker with ability to multitask and work effectively with minimal supervision.
Ability to participate as a team member.

Working knowledge of ASME Code Section I, IV & VIII, plus Piping Codes B31.1 & B31.3 helpful.
Pressure Vessel and Structural Skid design and application experience is desirable.

Roles & Responsibilities

The CAD Product Designer performs both semi-skilled and skilled duties within the Engineering department. This CAD Product Designer is responsible for creating product designs and/or developing sample products to meet pre-qualified specifications as provided by Encon Management, Sales or Marketing (Brand Management) members. Under the supervision of the company General Manager or designated Manager, the Designer uses technical descriptions, sketches and verbal direction to develop, design or draft actual or conceptual products. Daily the Designer will use knowledge of material qualities and properties, material standards, industrial processes and manufacturing procedures to complete this job. The assignments are project and/or product specific and will be measured on an effort-by-effort basis. This person will have experience collaborating with Mechanical Engineers, or those with a strong electrical background, or vice versa, but not limited to either of these disciplines.

Responsibilities:
Review complex drawings and 3D models of product per specifications.
Review details for structural skid, piping layout and structural assemblies.
Ensure quality of drawings and functionality of equipment.
Acquire measurements and complete as-built drawings for finished products.
Review mechanical designs for new product parts, subassemblies and assembly configurations.
Identify design flaws, recommend workable solutions and construction modifications.
Prepare BOM (Bills Of Material), specifications and change orders (ECO/ECN)
Design product layout and packaging with focus on DFM and Cost sensitivity
Assist in finding solutions to design issues that impact product quality.
Evaluate and analyze prototypes and design concepts.
Review or interpretation of engineering plans provided by others to determine correct component orientation and material lists for incorporation into Encon produced product is required.
Analyze plans and diagrams provided by customers to determine compatibility of Encon designs or specifications. Inputs to internal customers to provide comments on manufacturing or construction activities to include or meet Encon Safety Products' designs.
Draw rough sketches or arrange finished drawings or designs to illustrate specified materials or component assembly sequence into an overall design.
Work closely with Product Management, Customer Service and Engineering Department members to translate product and customer requirements into technical specifications and conceptual designs.
Works with the New Product Development Team to ensure that reliability, ease of manufacturability and superior quality are included in the design of new products.
Teams with appropriate members to have technical documents, manuals, bulletins, brochures, publications, training manuals and special reports created and accessible to company members.
Research product design, capabilities, and compatibility ranges as required and directed by the manager.
Research industry standards, governmental regulations, certifications and certifying bodies as designated by manager ensuring that specified products are designed, produced and evaluated to appropriate standards, and that they meet target market and customer expectations.
Review various resources and prepare analyses or summaries.
Participate in meetings as required with various managers and vendors to ensure that specifications are clearly defined and understood before commencement of production of new products.
Supports the New Product Development Team with first article inspection when assigned by manager.
Maintain the master written specification file within Encon Safety Products for all emergency shower and eyewash components and assemblies.
As needed and designated by the manager, support the need for, and completion of, 3rd party product and process testing and approval.
Performs other duties as deemed necessary or as required and assigned by the manager.

Preferred Qualifications

-PLEASE NOTE: This opening is with Encon Safety Products. Encon designs and manufactures market-leading personal protective equipment and hazardous-area storage cases for the protection and security of people, plant and equipment. Vallen distributes Encon's products. Encon is a Vallen company, but they still go by Encon Safety Products. The building and signage say Encon, they refer to themselves as Encon, have Encon email addresses, etc. Please make it clear to candidates that this is a job with Encon Safety Products.
