GovFirstis assisting our client with recruiting a Full-time, Direct Hire Assistant Project Manager / Project Manager position in NJ. Our client is a consulting engineering and construction management firm with large programs in the public sector and enterprise markets.


What you will do


Our client is seeking an Assistant Project Manager/ Project Manager within their Construction department. This position reports to the Project Executive. This position does not require relocation; however, it requires rotational travel for a minimum of 3 weeks at a time, with one weekend home.

The APM/PM works directly with Project Managers/Project Executive to construct a safe and quality project, adhering to estimate budgets, improving the total operating profit margin over the original bid, and building strong customer relationships. This position is responsible for completing/coordinating pre and post job reviews and overseeing the management of the work prior to and throughout construction. The APM/PM tracks project costs, submits change orders, schedules job, generates shop drawings, as-built drawings, and submittals, schedules subcontractors, procurement, and field operations.

A successful candidate will be a team player who is self-motivated and willing to jump in and assist where needed. As this is a field position, you will be expected to perform work year-round, in varying weather conditions that may be wet, cold or hot. You may be required to work nights and weekends.

Responsibilities:

  • Preparing and tracking project submittals, assisting in maintaining the performance of each subcontractor, verifying compliance with the plans and specifications, and attending job site meetings and other duties necessary for the successful completion of the projects
  • Work with project team members to develop schedule plan and progress strategy for each project.
  • Training newly hired Field Engineers
  • Support the project with quality control analysis, coordinate with inspectors, and ensure the construction work meets standards specified by designers.
  • Scope and contract preparation, obtaining various permits, preparing, and reviewing project schedules, estimating and verifying change order requests, responding to RFIs and responding to subcontractor and consultants project related questions,
  • Estimate quantities and cost of materials, equipment, or labor to determine project feasibility.
  • Complies with safety procedures/policies and addresses and/or elevates non-compliance among all employees, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Coordination of subcontractors on site
  • Documents all time and material operations and reconciles with the client on a daily basis
  • Generate and submit daily construction reports.
  • Take site walks to communicate with Foreman and Superintendents about current operations.
  • Ensures that projects are expeditiously and profitably constructed.
  • Establishes excellent working and professional relationships with the clients and their representatives and/or field inspectors.
  • Assists the buyout process, writes the requisition, and communicates all required information to the Project Team. Negotiates the best deal for cost, quality, and delivery.
  • Produces complete purchase orders after the conditions are approved by the Project Manager.
  • Knows the key operational details of the subcontract and holds the subcontractors accountable to their agreement. Attends the subcontractor coordination meetings to provide updates to schedules, drawings, and specifications.

Requirements:

  • Associate degree in engineering or construction Management or related field
  • For Security Clearance Requirements must be a US Citizen
  • At least 3-5 years of Field experience
  • Must be able to interpret blueprints/drawings
  • Working knowledge of estimating, engineering, cost tracking systems and site surveying

  • Able to multitask and work in a fast-paced challenging environment
  • Solid time management and demonstrates excellent organizational skills

  • Ability and desire to learn and progress within the organization
  • Valid driver s license and means of transportation
  • Undergo a background check (required)

Preferences:

  • Bachelor s Degree in Engineering or Construction Management
  • Spanish is a plus, but is not required

Physical Requirements:

  • Continually required to stand, walk, and sit
  • Continually required to utilize hand and finger dexterity
  • Continually required to talk or hear
  • Continually utilize visual acuity to operate office and field equipment
  • Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions when on project sites
  • Occasionally required to bend, stoop, and kneel
  • Occasionally required to lift and carry items less than 30 pounds
