Lubrizol is seeking aDirector of Global Employee & Labor Relationsto join our team. In this role, you will beresponsible for the development and implementation of the employee and labor relations strategy and translate the strategy into actions that tie to clear outcomes and measures. This role will have oversight and responsibility for an array of employee and labor-related functions including investigations of internal concerns and complaints, negotiations with unions and works councils, and will lead the design, performance, and governance of the Employee Relations and Labor Relations global end-to-end processes.This position engages with stakeholders across our global locations and partners closely with Lubrizol leadership, regional and local people leaders, the global HR organization, the Legal department, and ensures all employees have a forum to raise questions and concerns in a consistent, fair, and equitable manner. Ideally, this position will be based out of our Global Headquarters, in Wickliffe, OH, following a hybrid working model.

What you will do:

  • Oversee the ER function managing employee relations cases, ensuring consistent and fair application of disciplinary actions, interpersonal employee conflicts, and other employee-related matters to successful resolution
  • Investigate and propose solutions for complex employee relations matters in collaboration with HRBPs and managers; ensure complete and accurate documentation and tracking of all investigations
  • Provides strategic support and leadership on mitigating human capital risks associated with internal policies and programs, laws, and regulations
  • Apply ER metrics to gather insights, determine trends and develop proactive strategies to remediate risk within the company
  • Advise and train managers on ER best practices, develops further training as needed to reinforce our values and culture
  • Manage the ER case management system to review and track case progress as well as generate reporting for executive leadership and other stakeholders
  • Contribute to policies, standards, and business procedures designed to foster compliance with various employment laws and regulations, and to ensure our work environments embody trust, fairness, and inclusion for our employees
  • Support the local / regional / country / site leader and HR as company representatives in labor negotiations and will be primary counsel on enterprise-wide labor-management relations, negotiations, union-avoidance strategy, and contract administration activities
  • Represent HR on the Crisis Management and Threat Management governance teams
  • Maintain governance and ensure effective and compliant management over process documentation
  • Lead Labor Relations Governance Committee to develop and deploy our Labor Relations Strategy
  • Partner and coach country and regional leadership to achieve desired labor relations outcomes in alignment with strategy
  • Other duties as assigned

What you need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Labor Relations, Law, or business-related discipline
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience labor relations and employee relations, having developed and deployed labor and employee relations strategies company wide
  • Deep labor and employee relations experience in a global environment, in particular North America, Europe, South Africa, Latin America, and Asia Pacific
  • Broad understanding of core HR processes and practices
  • Experience in HR leadership role working with all levels of the organization from line employees to executive leadership to work collaboratively and influence
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. Candidate must have the executive presence to represent the HR function in internal and external leadership forums.
  • Demonstrated expertise building alignment on a cross-functional basis as well as conflict resolution
  • Strong project management skills and tools
  • Strong computer skills – Microsoft Office and Human Capital Management system. Experience with a knowledge and case portal is helpful-
  • Maintain the highest level of confidentiality and professionalism
