Electrical Engineer

Optimizes analog and digital circuit design by identifying components, looking at the end-of-life or component lifecycle, and conducting technical evaluation, and testing. Uses expertise in microprocessors, microcontrollers, DRR SDRAM, EEPROM, and LCD displays for technical evaluations and cost analysis.

Expertise of parts standardization process involved in electrical designs, including power supplies, supply voltage, application requirements, inputs/outputs, digital or analog signals, and communications protocols.

Provide expertise on BOM scrubbing, RoHS and obsolete component management, technology conversion (thru-hole to surface mount components) and identify low-cost form-fit-function replacements.

Expertise of using existing schematic/PCB design tools, including Altium and ORCAD. Generate design by creation of electronic component libraries, layout design by footprint creation per IPC standards and simulation of board thermal performance and solutions.

Must have knowledge of prototype circuit board design and development activities and electrical bill of material (BoM) preparation for printed circuit boards. Interact with electrical component vendors to get information on designs. Develops functional test plans to ensure quality of the final product in harsh environmental conditions. Validates designs through calculations and functional tests.

Ensures the compliance with product environments, hazardous area approval standards, safety regulations and product certifications. Provides design data to the Technical Regulations and Standards sections to assist in product certification.

Knowledge of commercially available components/modules, vendors, raw materials, and standard marketplace sizes. Provides financial summaries for specific projects.

Ability to use six sigma tools to maintain reliability while designing less expensive products, including Failure Modes, Effects, and Diagnostic Analysis (FMEDA).

Completes engineering change management, material creation, document creation and release, and addition of alternate components within the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.

Check for RoHS and Non-RoHS parts and suggest/find RoHS replacement parts for Non-RoHS parts.
