- Reservoir engineers use a wide range of techniques to accomplish this goal. They may design new wells or modify existing ones in order to maximize production. They may also develop new technologies or processes that can be used to extract more hydrocarbons from the ground. In addition to their technical duties, they often serve as liaisons between the engineering department and other departments within the company.
