Job Description

- Operating machinery used in the drilling process such as pumps, motors, and valves
- Observing oilfield conditions such as drilling fluid levels, mud weights, and fluid rates
- Operating machines that perform tests on samples of rock cuttings collected during drilling operations
- Communicating regularly with other crew members to ensure that operations are proceeding as planned
- Operating a crane to lift equipment, tools, materials, and supplies onto rigs or barges
- Coordinating with other workers to schedule repairs or maintenance of equipment
- Operate drilling rigs to bore holes in the earth to locate oil or gas deposits
