The Role:

Amazon Design Technologies is a multi-disciplinary team that provides design software systems platforms and design processes to our Product Development New Technology Operations Retail Footwear Apparel and Manufacturing teams. We are looking for an experienced Systems Development Engineer who enjoys solving problems and have a strong technical background in Systems Engineering and Software Development.

Key job responsibilities
As a Systems Development Engineer in Design Technologies team you will be responsible for building maintaining and supporting the systems that Amazons research development and design teams rely on to build the next generation of Amazon digital devices. You will coordinate with researchers and engineers to build and support the infrastructure they need. You will work with vendors to evaluate purchase deploy and support mission-critical tools. You will customize and integrate third-party software to meet Amazons needs. You will improve existing infrastructure to ensure it continues to meet Amazons high bar for operational excellence


- 6 years of systems design software development operations automation and process improvement experience
- 6 years of development/programming/scripting language (Python/Java/Bash/Perl) experience
- 6 years of deploying and operating in a Linux/Unix environment experience
- 4 years of systems development in an IT or data center environment experience
- Experience leading the design automation deployment and support of large-scale infrastructure
- Bachelors degree
- Experience in networking storage systems operating systems and hands-on systems engineering
- Experience leading the design build and deployment of complex and performant (reliable and scalable) software solutions in production
- Experience architecting/operating solutions built on AWS
- 1 or more years of demonstrated experience using AI/Gen AI tools to build intelligent software Systems and infrastructure management solutions with at least one concrete project or artifact (e.g. deployed system architecture design demo) to showcase and discuss

- Experience building tools for building testing releasing or monitoring
- Experience defining system architectures and exploring technical feasibility tradeoffs
- Experience in mentoring leading or managing more junior engineers
- Experience taking a leading role in building complex software or computing infrastructure that has been successfully delivered to customers
- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle including coding standards code reviews source control management build processes testing certification and livesite operations
- Experience writing technical documents project plans and progress reports to leadership and to stakeholders
