Job Description

  • Key Responsibilities

• Driving research and development activities related to Solid Mechanics and NDE technique such as Ultrasound IR thermography Acoustic emission and different techniques of electromagnetic rays
• Creating new projects / programs leveraging competencies of Solid mechanics and NDE evaluation
• Mentoring the team to analyze and interpret experimental data to draw meaningful scientific insights which can be utilized by BUs
• Enhancing collaboration with cross-functional teams to develop innovative solutions and products
• Stay updated with the latest advancements in the field of material science solid mechanics and NDE
• High adherence to safety policy of SG
• Leading minimum 2-3 strategic projects leveraging to fatigue and NDE competencies and subsequently support with scientific insights
• Technically leading the team and taking responsibility to develop knowledge base with inferences of experiments and coming up with new material innovation
• Exploring adjacencies of competencies and coming up with new project/program and platform proposal
• Effective usage of PDCA advanced statistical techniques and FMEA
• Efficient in using CRM tools and able to convert customer inputs into technical problem and project seamlessly transitions technical solutions to customers
• Delivering the Competency and BU projects following systematic project management framework

  • Skills & Knowledge

• Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of solid mechanics with expertise in fatigue fracture mechanics and various non-destructive evaluation (NDE) techniques
• Good experience with processing testing of composite materials and polymer
• Proficient in using material characterization instruments such as Universal Testing Machines (UTM) and non-destructive evaluation (NDE) techniques including ultrasonic testing infrared (IR) thermography and fiber optic sensing
• Possess strong leadership skills –having experience in leading projects using stage gate methodology
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Effective communication (written and verbal) and collaboration abilities
• Mandatory to have good presentation skill to convey message in concise manner
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment
• Should have strong ability to establish structure-property-process relationship and be able to apply for Root Cause Analysis
• Strong in interpretation on characterization & tests reports
• Good interpersonal skill to connect across cross-functional and multi-functional teams
• Should possess good time and risk management skills and should be able to prioritize based on requirement in dynamic work culture
• Good knowledge on statistical tools
• Effective balance of eye for detail and agility
• Strong in problem solving skills and able to identify potential showstoppers and navigate them effectively

Education

Academic Qualification

Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science specializing in Fatigue & Fracture Mechanics and Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) with 6–8 years of relevant experience; or a master’s degree in mechanical engineering or Materials Science with 12 years of relevant industry experience
