: Senior Research Engineer

Location: Saint-Gobain Research India (SGRI) Chennai Tamil Nadu India (On-site)

EXP: 3-5 years

Saint-Gobain Research India the 7th Transversal R&D Center of Saint-Gobain located in Chennai is seeking a Senior Research Engineer for its Competency Research Lab. The role focuses on driving innovation across R&D projects involving primarily polymers abrasives gypsum glass and ceramics. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in rheology and materials science along with hands-on experience in experimentation and data analysis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive and develop the organization’s rheology competency for lightweight construction materials
  • Define rheological methodologies standards and best practices to enable material innovation development scale-up and manufacturing robustness
  • Plan execute and interpret advanced rheological testing to link material structure processing behavior and end-use performance
  • Provide expert guidance to formulation process and simulation teams to address challenges related to flow dispersion curing stability and processability
  • Translate rheological data into design specification and actionable recommendations for lightweight material optimization and processing technologies
  • Establish and maintain rheology test methods aligned with application needs
  • Mentor and technically develop team on rheology-related topics
  • Conducting global workshop to exchange the knowledge and technologies around Rheology
  • Drive continuous improvement in rheology tools instrumentation data analysis methods and digitalization of experiment results
  • Collaborate with external partners suppliers and academic institutions to integrate emerging rheology techniques and innovations

Required Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong expertise in rheology principles including viscoelasticity flow behavior and structure–property relationships of materials
  • Hands-on experience with advanced rheological testing techniques and instrumentation
  • Good knowledge of materials such as polymers composites and cementitious materials
  • Ability to translate rheological data into material design process optimization and manufacturing decisions
  • Proficiency in data analysis modeling simulation and interpretation of complex rheological datasets.
  • Strong problem-solving skills for addressing product processing stability and scale-up challenges.
  • Technical leadership skills including mentoring and cross-functional collaboration
  • Familiarity with industry standards test method development and quality requirements
  • Effective technical communication skills for reporting presentations and interactions with key stakeholders (customers suppliers and research team)

Education

Academic Qualification

PhD in Chemical Engineering with demonstrated expertise in rheology and 3–5 years of industry or applied research experience
