George Institute Services India

George Institute Services India Pvt Ltd (GIS) is a step down subsidiary of The George Institute for Global Health Australia (TGI) and has been set up as a commercial for-profit entity to provide advisory and consulting services in the healthcare space undertake commissioned research and provide various services to overseas group entities.

Context of the role

The Global Planetary Health Program will be delivered through a set of catalyst activities that unlock partnerships research funding capacity strengthening and policy impact across TGIs regional offices and Imperials global hubs.

The Planetary Health Program Manager will work closely with the Planetary Health Program Director to operationalise the Planetary Health Strategy coordinate research and proposal development and support a global network of researchers and partners working on planetary health. The role will sit at the interface of research operations and impact ensuring the Programme is well-governed well-communicated and on track to meet its strategic goals for 2030.

Programme overview

The Planetary Health Research Program at The George Institute brings together interdisciplinary expertise to understand and address how environmental change from climate extremes disrupted built environments to degraded food and health systems affects population health and equity across the life course. Anchored in The George Institutes Planetary Health Research Strategy 2030 the Program generates policy-relevant evidence on the health impacts of environmental change and designs transformative mitigation and adaptation solutions that decarbonise healthcare build resilient communities and embed Indigenous and other marginalised voices in governance. Working through global partnerships across the UK Europe Africa Asia and the Pacific the Program supports capacity strengthening innovation and advocacy to ensure that research drives measurable improvements in health and environmental sustainability for those most affected by climate change and other planetary crises.

The role

The Manager Global Planetary Health Program is a leadership role responsible for daytoday management and coordination of the Program in line with the Planetary Health Research Strategy 2030. Working with the Director and colleagues across TGI and their academic partners in Imperial College London University of New South Wales Manipal Academy of Higher Education the postholder will oversee Program planning and delivery support interdisciplinary research and funding proposals coordinate communications and engagement and strengthen research networks and communities of practice across regions. The role requires strong program and project management skills experience in research or research support and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse academic policy and civil society partners.

Reporting relationships

Reports to: Global Director Planetary Health Program

Functional relationships with:

• Research Program Leads and Principal Investigators working on planetary healthaligned projects.
• TGI Impact & Engagement Philanthropy and Innovation and Enterprise teams.
• Imperial College London School of Public Health and relevant centres and hubs.
• Regional Planetary Health focal points and members of the Planetary Health Community of Practice.

Manages: May have line management responsibility for program coordinators over time.

Key responsibilities

1. Program planning governance and delivery

• Coordinate the development implementation and periodic review of the Global Planetary Health Program workplan aligned with the Planetary Health Strategy 2030 and TGIs Roadmap to 2030.
• Track delivery against key strategy indicators (e.g. research outputs collaborations grants policy products innovation events capacitystrengthening activities) and prepare regular internal reports and dashboards.
• Support the Director to establish and service Program governance mechanisms (e.g. steering groups advisory groups internal working groups) including preparation of agendas papers and minutes.
• Coordinate annual and midterm reviews of Program progress and contribute to investment cases and business plans for program growth.

2. Support to research programmes and proposal development

• Work with research teams across TGI and Imperial to identify opportunities to embed a planetary health lens into existing and new studies in line with the Strategys pillars and objectives.
• Provide operational and coordination support to the development of major multicountry and multipartner research proposals (e.g. scoping meetings timelines inputs collation budget coordination with research services teams).
• Maintain an overview of active and pipeline planetary healthaligned projects including basic information on scope status partners funding and key milestones.
• Coordinate inputs from Impact & Engagement philanthropy and other enabling teams to strengthen the policy advocacy and impact components of grant proposals.

3. Partnerships networks and communities of practice

• Coordinate the Planetary Health Community of Practice including membership regular meetings learning events and annual Strategy implementation reviews.
• Support the mapping initiation and stewardship of strategic partnerships with academic institutions civil society networks advocacy coalitions and multilateral organisations relevant to planetary health.
• Work with regional offices to identify and nurture regional planetary health networks and to align Program activities with regional priorities and strengths.
• Help connect TGIs planetary health work with Imperials global hubs and Schools of Convergence Science (e.g. School of Sustainability) facilitating joint activities where appropriate.

4. Programme communications and impact

• In collaboration with TGIs Impact & Engagement and communications teams develop and maintain a concise Program narrative key messages and communication materials (e.g. web content briefings slide decks newsletters).
• Coordinate regular internal updates on planetary health activities and opportunities across TGI and Imperial (e.g. internal bulletins seminars brownbag sessions).
• Support planning and delivery of planetary healthrelated events including innovation events policy roundtables conference sideevents and COPrelated engagements.
• Maintain a repository of planetary health outputs (e.g. publications policy briefs blogs podcasts) and support their dissemination through appropriate channels.

5. Operations resource management and continuous improvement

• Support the Director in monitoring Program budgets resource allocation and use of internal seed funding or catalyst funds working closely with finance and operations colleagues.
• Contribute to processes for monitoring the carbon footprint and sustainability of planetary health research activities consistent with Strategy objectives on decarbonising research and health systems.
• Identify opportunities to streamline programme processes and tools drawing on good practice from operations and project management across TGI (e.g. templates trackers standard operating procedures).
• Contribute to institutional reporting on planetary health for senior management funders and external partners as required.

Skills knowledge and experience

Essential

• Degree or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline (e.g. public health environmental or climate science global health social sciences public policy or related field).
• Demonstrated experience in program or largescale project management in a research academic public health NGO or similar setting including planning coordination and monitoring against timelines and deliverables.
• Experience working with or within research programmes (e.g. supporting proposal development coordinating multipartner projects or managing research portfolios).
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple workstreams and stakeholders across regions and time zones.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience preparing briefings reports and presentations for diverse audiences.
• Proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with academic policy civil society and other partners including in crosscultural settings.
• High level of proficiency with standard office software (e.g. Outlook Word Excel PowerPoint) and collaborative tools (e.g. Teams SharePoint project management).
• Commitment to health equity environmental sustainability and the values underpinning planetary health including respect for Indigenous knowledges and meaningful community engagement.

Desirable

• Postgraduate qualification in a relevant area (e.g. MSc/MPH/MA in public or global health environmental health climate change health policy or related discipline).
• Experience in global health climate and health or planetary health initiatives particularly in low and middleincome country contexts.
• Experience supporting the development of large multiinvestigator multicountry grant applications to major funders (e.g. UKRI NIHR Wellcome EU philanthropy).
• Experience in programlevel communications or knowledge translation (e.g. web content newsletters policy briefs events).
• Familiarity with monitoring evaluation and learning (MEL) approaches in research or policy programs.
• Experience working within or alongside universities or research institutes and an understanding of academic governance and research management processes.
