Position Overview and Objective

Drives meaningful improvements in system reliability and operational efficiency across teams. This role leads embedded SRD engagements defines and implements service-level objectives (SLOs) and guides incident strategy from prevention to resolution. With deep technical expertise in infrastructure automation and observability they reduce organizational toil through scalable tooling and design. Operating with high autonomy they mentor developers shape reliability standards and foster a culture of resilience and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

A Senior Reliability Developer is a technical leader in production operations and infrastructure capable of driving meaningful improvements across teams and systems. They lead embedded SRE style engagements own complex infrastructure initiatives and reduce organizational toil through durable tooling and design. They demonstrate strong systems thinking high autonomy and help shape the broader reliability culture through mentorship standards and incident strategy.

Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of information requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Devises solutions based on limited information and precedent and adapts existing approaches to resolve issues. Uses evaluation judgment and interpretation to select right course of action. Work is done independently and is reviewed at critical points. Navigates crossteam issues and unstructured requirements providing robust solutions.

Experience & Requirements

  • Deep experience with IAC languages used at AWN.

  • Experiencing using either a general purpose programming language or scripting language to automate toil.

  • Proficiency with at least half a dozen technologies like Kubernetes Istio Service Mesh Grafana Prometheus Service Level Objective Setting Terragrunt Chef Packer Helm Docker GitHub Pagerduty FireHydrant Noble9.

  • Submitting and accommodating feedback on PRs.

  • Reviewing and providing input to HLDs aligned to a high reliability architecture model like The 12 Factor App.

  • Awareness of business objectives and identification of work application to those objectives.

  • Give input to the coding standards and PR standard approval/merging process.

  • Shapes and enforces best practices across the team.

  • Understands and can communicate the domain of Reliability engineering.

  • Mentors team members to grow their expertise.
