Job Summary

Description

The Manufacturing Test Engineer is responsible for the development and implementation of Engine /transmission assembly test systems within Powertrain Operations.

The role supports new model launches through test equipment specification supplier selection equipment validation installation commissioning and production readiness activities. The engineer will drive continuous improvement initiatives monitor manufacturing test performance and support the introduction of new testing technologies while ensuring world-class quality safety and manufacturing excellence.



Responsibilities

Test Systems Development & Launch

  • Develop detailed test requirements for new Engine/ transmission manufacturing programmes in accordance with Ford Powertrain standards manufacturing strategies launch requirements and Bill of Process guidelines.
  • Lead the design development validation delivery and launch of new or re-tooled test equipment.
  • Develop test station concepts with a focus on safety quality ergonomics and manufacturability.
  • Coordinate transmission assembly test strategies and ensure alignment with assembly processes.

Supplier Management & Procurement

  • Lead supplier sourcing activities and prepare RFQs for all In process test stations leak test station Cold test HOT RUN including required consumables such as seals harnesses and service parts.
  • Evaluate supplier quotations and conduct cost technical and capability assessments.
  • Select suppliers and support the procurement and ordering process.
  • Ensure technical specifications are clearly communicated to suppliers.
  • Conduct supplier pre-witness reviews and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Verify implementation of corrective actions before final equipment acceptance.

Installation Commissioning & Validation

  • Coordinate installation and commissioning of all in-process test stations.
  • Conduct equipment witnessing activities and performance validation at supplier and plant locations.
  • Verify machine capability and readiness prior to shipment and production use.
  • Lead Machine Acceptance Checklist (MAC) activities issue resolution and production sign-off processes.
  • Support Safety PROTAG approval activities and production readiness reviews.

Manufacturing Process & Documentation

  • Develop manufacturing test processes tooling fixtures and associated software applications including WMA and SCIEMETRIC systems.
  • Coordinate material handling systems gauging tooling backup tools and support equipment.
  • Develop and maintain process documentation including:
    • PFMEA
    • Control Plans
    • Process Sheets
    • Process Illustrations
    • Setup Drawings
    • Standard Operating Procedures

Quality & Continuous Improvement

  • Analyse First Time Through (FTT) performance and identify root causes for losses.
  • Monitor test station data and establish process control limits.
  • Investigate manufacturing and field quality concerns related to transmission systems.
  • Develop corrective actions to prevent defect escape and improve process capability.
  • Support implementation of new test technologies and continuous improvement initiatives.

Knowledge Transfer & Sustainment

  • Complete successful handover of test stations to Plant Test Engineering teams.
  • Ensure all launch quality requirements are achieved prior to handover.
  • Provide technical support during overlap and stabilisation phases.
  • Participate in regular test engineering reviews and knowledge-sharing activities.


Qualifications

Required Education

  • Diploma or Bachelors Degree in:
    • Mechanical Engineering
    • Electrical Engineering
    • Manufacturing Engineering
    • Industrial Engineering
    • Automotive Engineering
    • Production Engineering
    • Related Engineering Discipline

Preferred

  • Masters Degree in Engineering or Science.

Professional Experience

  • Experience developing manufacturing test systems within automotive powertrain transmission or assembly operations.
  • Experience supporting equipment procurement installation commissioning and production launch.
  • Experience working with suppliers and cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Knowledge of automated manufacturing equipment and industrial processes.
