The IBM Storage Administrator is responsible for managing monitoring and supporting IBM enterprise storage environments. The role involves storage provisioning capacity management troubleshooting host and hardware issues and coordinating with vendors to ensure high availability and reliability of storage services.
Key Responsibilities
Storage Provisioning & Management
Perform volume and LUN provisioning resizing and expansions based on business requirements.
Create and manage hosts and host groups and map LUNs to servers across environments (Windows Linux UNIX).
Monitor storage pools volumes and capacity utilization ensuring optimal performance and availability.
Plan and execute storage pool expansions with minimal impact to production systems.
Monitoring & Troubleshooting
Monitor storage health alerts and performance metrics proactively.
Troubleshoot and resolve host-related issues storage connectivity problems and hardware-related failures.
Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for recurring storage incidents and implement preventive actions.
Support incident problem and change management activities as per ITIL processes.
High Availability & Vendor Coordination
Coordinate with IBM/vendors for high availability (H/A) failures hardware replacements and break-fix activities.
Manage vendor tickets track SLAs and ensure timely resolution of hardware issues.
Participate in planned maintenance activities firmware upgrades and hardware lifecycle management.
Documentation & Compliance
Maintain up-to-date documentation for storage configurations mappings and SOPs.
Ensure adherence to internal security compliance and audit requirements.
Support internal and external audits by providing required storage-related evidence.
Technical Skills & Expertise
Mandatory Skills
Strong hands-on experience with IBM Storage platforms
Volume and LUN provisioning mapping and expansion
Storage pool monitoring and capacity management
Host configuration and troubleshooting (Windows/Linux/UNIX)
Hardware fault identification and vendor coordination
Good to Have
Knowledge of SAN concepts and multipathing
Exposure to ITIL-based incident and change management
Experience working in 24x7 production environments
