HVDCVSC Systems Expert – Substation & HVDC
Job Summary
Job Purpose
Provide specialist technical oversight for the 500 kV VSC-HVDC terminal stations including converter technology AC/DC system interfaces converter transformers valves reactors filters control protection and system integration.
Key Responsibilities
- Review the overall HVDC system architecture design criteria and technical interfaces.
- Review OEM documents for VSC converters converter valves converter transformers and associated auxiliaries.
- Review AC/DC filters phase reactors smoothing reactors harmonic filters and reactive-power equipment.
- Review station control pole control valve control protection monitoring and sequence-of-events systems.
- Review operating modes power-control functions voltage and reactive-power control and system recovery philosophy.
- Review control and protection coordination between the HVDC system AC substations grid protection SCADA and telecom systems.
- Review applicable system studies including load flow short circuit harmonic insulation coordination overvoltage dynamic-performance and electromagnetic-interference studies.
- Verify technical interfaces between converter transformers valves cooling systems control systems and station auxiliaries.
- Review converter hall valve hall equipment-layout and environmental requirements.
- Review OEM manufacturing installation testing and commissioning procedures.
- Participate in design reviews interface meetings model-validation reviews and technical workshops.
- Review control and protection settings logic diagrams interlocks trip matrices and functional specifications.
- Review factory and site testing documentation where included in the contracted scope.
- Support resolution of complex technical issues during installation testing and system integration.
- Review readiness for subsystem testing station integration energization and trial operation.
- Advise the Client on HVDC performance risks OEM deviations design gaps and mitigation measures.
- Support review of as-built documentation operating manuals and training requirements.

Qualifications :
Minimum Qualification and Experience
- Bachelors or masters degree in Electrical Engineering Power Systems or Power Electronics.
- Minimum 12 years of experience in HVDC FACTS power-electronic converter systems or EHV system integration.
- Demonstrated experience with VSC-HVDC or comparable converter-based transmission systems.
- Knowledge of HVDC control protection system studies converter transformers valves and harmonic performance.
- Experience in OEM design review testing and commissioning is preferred.
