Job Summary
As a Engineering Costing and sourcing Engineer you will be a key contributor to the GES Team handling Engineering costing and sourcing activities for IMG working closely with Purchasing Finance Cost Estimation and Program Management. This role is critical to the product development cycle supporting cost governance from Program Start through Job 1. You will be responsible for monitoring and reporting program cost status including Risks & Opportunities (R&O) leading financial trade-off discussions with Cross-Functional Teams (CFTs) and partnering with suppliers and internal Cost Estimation teams to establish accurate cost estimates for engineering changes. Additionally you will support sourcing strategy execution verify supplier Engineering Design & Testing (ED&T) scope against the Engineering Statement of Work (ESOW) and track Tooling and Purchase Order (PO) updates for key stakeholders. Beyond the core costing and sourcing scope you will play an active role in modernizing team operations by leveraging Python Power BI and basic AI techniques to automate manual trackers reports and analyses driving measurable efficiency and value addition for the team.
Responsibilities
- Monitor update and report program cost status including Risks & Opportunities (R&O) regularly from Program Start through Job 1.
- Lead financial trade-off discussions with Cross-Functional Teams (CFTs) to evaluate and balance cost changes against product requirements.
- Partner with suppliers to secure detailed quotes and collaborate with internal Cost Estimation teams to establish accurate estimates for engineering changes.
- Facilitate and drive CFT meetings involving Finance Purchasing (Buyers) and Cost Estimation teams.
- : Identify cost opportunities from supplier quotes regarding Material Costs Tooling Costs and ED&T throughout design development and launch phases.
- Maintain the program change tracker from program start to Job 1.
- Support and track execution of the SOBA (Supplier On Board Agreement) plan.
- Verify supplier ED&T against the Engineering Statement of Work (ESOW) and secure approvals from the governance board.
- Prepare and present Tooling Cost estimates to Program Management; track and report Tooling and PO updates to key stakeholders.
- roactively identify manual repetitive cost/sourcing tasks and build Python- and Power BI-based automation solutions leveraging basic AI techniques where applicable (e.g. pattern recognition predictive flags) to improve tracker accuracy reporting speed and overall team efficiency.
Qualifications
Education:
- B.E. / in Mechanical Automobile or Mechatronics Engineering.
Experience:
- 2 to 4 years of experience in the automotive domain specifically in Product Costing Cost Engineering Sourcing or Techno-Commercial roles.
Functional/Technical Skills:
- Hands-on experience with at least one automotive commodity Exterior Interior Chassis or Electrical systems.
- Strong understanding of commodity cost drivers and manufacturing processes (stamping moulding casting assembly etc.) to deliver cost targets.
- Basic knowledge of CAD tools (viewing measuring analysing 3D models/drawings) and familiarity with PLM systems.
- PStrong understanding of automotive product development milestones (Program start to Job 1) and change management processes.
- Cost Analysis: Exceptional understanding of cost drivers for identifying cost opportunities from supplier quotes.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical capabilities to manage complex trackers and financial data.
- Python for Automation: Practical hands-on coding experience in Python to automate manual cost tracking reporting and data processing tasks.
- Power BI: Proficiency in Power BI for building dashboards data visualization and driving data-led decision-making across cost and sourcing trackers.
- Applied AI Principles: Working knowledge of basic AI/ML concepts (e.g. predictive analytics pattern recognition or simple ML models) to identify cost trends flag anomalies and enhance decision support.
- Value Addition Mindset: Demonstrated ability to independently identify inefficiencies and build automated tools/scripts that reduce manual effort and add measurable value to team operations.
- Familiarity with Power Automate Power Apps and PLM tools like Teamcenter or 3DX.
- Communication: Excellent communication and presentation skills with a proven ability to collaborate with regional and global cross-functional teams.
