Job Summary:

The Dean of the Engineering College is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing all academic administrative and financial functions within the college. The Dean will drive the vision and mission of the college providing strategic direction fostering innovation ensuring academic excellence and promoting a culture of inclusion and collaboration. This position requires a visionary leader with a strong background in engineering education research and administration.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership:

o Lead the development and execution of the college s strategic goals and objectives.

o Align the academic and research priorities of the college with the university s vision and mission.

o Foster innovation in teaching research and curriculum development.

  • Academic Oversight:

o Oversee the academic programs ensuring they meet high standards of excellence and relevance to the industry.

o Ensure the continual assessment and improvement of academic programs including undergraduate graduate and doctoral studies.

o Lead faculty recruitment development and evaluation processes.

o Promote faculty research and encourage interdisciplinary collaborations.

  • Research and Innovation:

o Promote a strong research culture within the college encouraging both basic and applied research.

o Establish partnerships with industries government bodies and other academic institutions for collaborative research.

o Secure funding for research through grants corporate partnerships and philanthropic initiatives.

  • Administrative Leadership:

o Manage the budget of the college and allocate resources efficiently to support academic and research priorities.

o Oversee the administration of the college s departments ensuring optimal operational performance.

o Ensure compliance with accreditation requirements and regulatory standards.

o Develop and implement policies and procedures related to faculty staff students and academic programs.

  • Student and Faculty Engagement:

o Foster a student-centered approach to education ensuring a positive learning environment and high retention rates.

o Serve as a mentor and guide to students faculty and staff.

o Support faculty development through teaching resources research opportunities and career growth.

  • External Relations and Fundraising:

o Represent the college within the university regionally and nationally in academic industry and government forums.

o Establish and maintain strong relationships with alumni industry leaders and donors.

o Lead fundraising and development initiatives for the college.

  • Diversity and Inclusion:

o Promote diversity equity and inclusion within the college ensuring a supportive environment for all students and staff.

o Work towards creating initiatives that encourage diversity in engineering fields.


Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • Ph.D. in Engineering or a closely related field.
  • A strong academic record with a background in teaching and research.
  • Experience:
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in higher education with significant leadership and administrative experience in an academic environment preferably in engineering.
  • Proven track record of successful academic leadership faculty development and strategic planning.
  • Experience in managing budgets fundraising and building industry partnerships.
  • Skills & Competencies:
  • Strong leadership and decision-making skills with the ability to inspire and motivate faculty staff and students.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and an innovative approach to challenges in academia and research.
  • A deep understanding of the evolving landscape of engineering education research and industry needs.
  • Commitment to diversity equity and inclusion in academia.


Desirable Attributes:

  • Experience in the establishment of successful research collaborations with industry.
  • A history of substantial academic publishing and contributions to the engineering field.
  • Familiarity with accreditation processes and standards in engineering education (e.g. ABET).
  • Strong network within the global engineering and academic communities.
