Computational Biologist (mfd)
Job Summary
LIQOMICS GmbH is a Cologne-based biotech company specializing in the diagnostics of circulating tumor DNA in blood samples (liquid biopsy). Our diagnostics support physicians as well as cancer patients worldwide in making the right decisions before during and after therapy.
Our mission: Through our innovative diagnostics we want to reduce the number of preventable cancer-related deaths to zero.
To strengthen our team we are looking for a Computational Biologist with hands-on experience in next-generation sequencing data analysis. This role is for someone who thrives on understanding genomic data building analytical methods and extracting meaningful biological signals from sequencing data.
Tasks
- Design build and optimize bioinformatics pipelines for cfDNA analysis
- Investigate sources of noise bias and technical artifact in NGS data and design computational strategies to address them
- Perform deep exploratory data analysis on large-scale sequencing datasets to generate and test biological hypotheses
- Build statistical and machine learning models to detect low-allele-fraction somatic variants tumor-derived signal and other cfDNA-specific features
- Collaborate with wet-lab scientists to translate biological questions into computational experiments and interpret results in a clinically meaningful context
Requirements
- A relevant university degree or equivalent experience
- Proficiency in Python for data analysis statistical modeling and pipeline development
- Hands-on experience analyzing large amounts of genomic data preferably with direct exposure to cfDNA and liquid biopsy
- Understanding of the technical challenges specific to NGS and cfDNA: low allele fractions fragment-level features and noise modeling
- Experience building statistical or machine learning models
Cover Letter (required)
Please keep it to one our organization individual contributions are highly visible so concrete examples of what you personally have done help more than general statements.
- Why this role: Why does this work appeal to you and what are you looking for next Feel free to include your ideal work environment or anything else that helps us get to know you.
- What you have built: Tell us about a pipeline or analysis you are proud of (for example NGS variant calling noise modeling). What made it demanding what specifically was your contribution and was it used in research production or the clinic
- A project you are proud of: Describe a project where you did your best work. What was your role what did it lead to and what would you push further next time
Benefits
A friendly dynamic team with diverse professional backgrounds true team spirit and a mission that matters. At LIQOMICS you actively shape your area and see directly what your work achieves. You have a wide range of development opportunities and can actively shape your professional path with us.
