Mission principale :
Postdoctoral or Research engineer position in Integrated Circuit Design for Communication Systems: 6G Digital transmitter based on RF DAC and digital delta-sigma modulation
Duration: 18 months
SHIFT Project Context : The SHIFT project is a large KDT European project coordinated by STMicroelectronics involving 35 partners to develop sustainable technologies enabling future telecom applications. One of the work packages is dedicated to network Fronthaul and access technologies. The goal is to design a demonstrator for a sub-10GHz 6G transceiver chain for massive MIMO networks. The demonstrator aims to address physical implementation challenges for the coming 5GNR & 6G radio base stations concerning the Digital Front End (DFE) and Analog Radio Front End specifically in data rate latency bandwidth and improved spectrum efficiency. It will be based on the co-integration of a digital MMIC chip in an advanced FDSOI CMOS technology and an analog front-end in a BiCMOS process. It involves multiple partners and the role of JUNIA within the project is to study and design the delta-sigma-based RF digital-to-analog converter inside the MMIC transmitter.
Objectives: The objective of this ambitious 18-month position is to design an efficient solution for digital-to-RF conversion in this mMIMO transmitter. It will imply studying RF DACs for digital transmitters exploring delta-sigma modulator architectures (time-interleaved hybrid) designing the circuits at the transistor or RTL level and performing the physical implementation in the advanced FDSOI technology node. Within the project we plan to tape-out and fabricate the chip envision the package and develop test boards to characterize the overall performance. The work will be conducted in the Integrated Circuit Design Research Group of the JUNIA School of Engineering part of the Institute of Electronics Microelectronics and Nanotechnologies (IEMN) CNRS laboratory located in Lille France. The research team has built competencies in highly-digital transmitters in advanced CMOS technologies for several years. The team is also conducting state-of-the-art national and European projects in the field of integrated circuit design. More information on the research group can be found here: Group : MICROELEC SI - IEMN This work will be carried in collaboration with other research institutes (Telecom Paris IMS Bordeaux) and companies (SeamlessWaves and Nokia Bell Labs). The candidate will have a lot of interactions with these partners and will also contribute actively to the SHIFT project through attending regular technical discussions and consortium meetings. SHIFT project Future Telecom Applications.
Profil :
Haveearned a Master or Ph.D. degree in the field of microelectronics orequivalent; Haveexpertise with analog and mixed-signal design tools (knowledge of Cadence ismandatory). Experience with custom IC design is preferred. Beproficient in English (oral and written); Beable to work in a team be autonomous and take initiatives beyond the project;
