Job Summary

CONSULTANT - Sustainable Farming Science Program



With novel partnerships the Alliance generates evidence and mainstreams innovations to transform food systems and landscapes so that they sustain the planet drive prosperity and nourish people in a climate crisis.

The Alliance is part of CGIAR a global research partnership for a food-secure future.

The Alliance of Bioversity and CIAT is engaged in supporting the agricultural transformation effort e.g. of the government of Ethiopia mainly through its GIZ projects and Sustainable Farming Science Program. SFP aims to drive agronomic gains by scaling integrated whole-farm management solutions. Expected impacts are increased productivity (15 - 30%) profitability (10 - 15%) contribute to adaptation to climate change and sustainability (15% reduction of GHG emissions 20% more efficient water and fertilizer use). SFP solutions bring together three interdependent components: Agronomic practices that improve crop and resource-use efficiency at the field level; integrated plant health innovations; and farming-system approaches that link these elements aligning technologies management practices and social dimensions to support sustainable livelihoods. These components will emphasize a focus on understanding and mitigating risks and addressing partner demands to maximize resilience of farming systems.

This consultancy will support restructuring and develop a peer-reviewed journal article on perspectives and learnings of agronomic bio-fortification.

Deliverables
  • Synthesize learning from agronomic bio-fortification community of practice based on initial draft
  • Integrate key insights obtained during the development of crop-specific synthesis for wheat rice maize and beans and
  • Structure a manuscript with these learning for peer-reviewed publication

Requirements
Required Expertise
  • Strong technical expertise in agronomic bio-fortification crop nutrition micronutrientmanagement and related agronomic practices.
  • One must have been deeply involved in the community of practice engaged in the analysis and writing of the 4 crop-specific manuscripts.
  • Ability to synthesize evidence and translate cross-crop learning into a coherent scientific perspective.
  • Excellent scientific writing critical analysis and manuscript-development skills..
Qualifications
  • An advanced university degree preferably a PhD in agronomy crop science soil science plant nutrition bio-fortification or a closely related discipline.
  • Evidence of relevant peer-reviewed publications in agronomy bio-fortification plant nutrition or related fields.
  • Excellent written English and strong attention to scientific accuracy and detail.
Expected Experience
  • Demonstrated experience developing coordinating and submitting manuscripts topeer-reviewed journals.
  • Experience incorporating technical feedback and coordinating inputs from multiple authors or contributors.
  • Proven ability to deliver high-quality scientific outputs within agreed timelines.
