JOB TITLE: WFP Volunteer Programme & Policy Research Support (Resilience & Climate)
UNIT/DIVISION: Regional Resilience & Climate Team MENAEERO
DUTY STATION: Cairo Egypt
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
The MENAEERO Resilience and Climate team supports regional strategy development policy engagement and programme positioning across climate resilience food systems and sustainable development agendas. This work requires continuous monitoring of regional and global policy processes analysis of emerging trends and preparation of highquality background materials to support internal planning coordination with Country Offices and engagement with partners.
Given the breadth of the regional portfolio and the pace of ongoing policy and planning processes there is a sustained need for structured research and synthesis to inform internal strategy development. To strengthen internal capacity during the summer period the team seeks to engage a WFP Volunteer through the volunteer modality to support nonsensitive programme and policy research activities.
The purpose of this assignment is to support deskbased research and analysis related to climate resilience food systems and relevant policy frameworks and to contribute to the preparation of nonconfidential briefing notes background papers and internal knowledge materials. The volunteer will work under close supervision and will not have access to sensitive or confidential information.
ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the supervision of the Regional Head of Resilience and Climate the volunteer will:
1. Conduct structured desk research on regional and national policy developments related to climate resilience food systems and early recovery.
2. Support preparation of non-sensitive briefing notes background papers and internal strategy materials
3. Track relevant regional and global policy processes and compile summary notes for internal reference
4. Support drafting and editing of presentations and concept framing documents for internal use
5. Assist with organising research materials references and meeting outputs
DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT:
1. Concise policy and background research notes
2. Draft internal briefing materials and presentations
3. Organised non-confidential reference and research files
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Education: Background in political science international relations development studies economics or related fields
Knowledge & Skills: Strong research writing and synthesis skills; ability to produce clear and concise briefing materials; proficiency in MS Word and PowerPoint
Languages: Excellent written and spoken English; Arabic is an asset
