Position Overview
The MEP Lead (Mechanical) serves as the primary technical authority representing the client on large-scale and mega projects. This role oversees mechanical and multidisciplinary MEP design reviews directs contractor site execution manages stakeholder interfaces and ensures that all mechanical HVAC plumbing and fire protection systems meet rigorous quality cost and schedule standards.
Key Responsibilities
Design Review & Technical Coordination: Lead the review of conceptual detailed and IFC MEP design submissions. Verify compliance with project specifications international codes and authority regulations.
Contractor & Site Oversight: Monitor contractor performance on-site review and approve shop drawings Material Approval Requests (MARs) Requests for Information (RFIs) and method statements.
Client Representation: Lead technical MEP discussions workshops and progress meetings on behalf of the client with consultants main contractors and local authorities.
Interdisciplinary Alignment: Coordinate mechanical interfaces with electrical structural architectural and BMS disciplines to proactively resolve spatial and systems clashes.
QA/QC & Commissioning: Oversee quality audits witness critical inspections and supervise Testing Adjusting and Balancing (TAB) as well as final integrated MEP commissioning and handover.
Value Engineering: Identify optimization opportunities in equipment selection energy efficiency and buildability without compromising performance or lifecycle requirements.
Candidate Qualifications & Background
Education
Bachelors Degree: Mechanical Engineering (Mandatory; Electrical Engineering acceptable with extensive mechanical PMC experience).
Masters Degree: Mechanical Engineering Engineering Management or related discipline (Preferred; extensive track record may substitute).
Experience
1215 years of progressive MEP experience including a minimum of 35 years in a Lead/Discipline Head role.
Proven track record within reputable Project Management Consultancies (PMC) or international engineering consultancies
Direct experience delivering large-scale / mega projects from detailed design through testing and commissioning.
Certifications & Licenses
Project Management Professional (PMP) Preferred
QA/QC Certification (e.g. ISO 9001 Lead Auditor/Inspector) Preferred
Professional Engineer (PE) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) status Advantage
LEED AP GSAS or equivalent Sustainability accreditation Advantage
Core Competencies
Deep technical knowledge of international mechanical standards (ASHRAE NFPA IPC SMACNA ASME).
Strong capability in managing multi-tier contractor teams and defending client interests.
High-level proficiency in BIM workflows MEP coordination software and design review platforms.
