Architectural Lead (Marine)

Role Overview

We are seeking a highly accomplished strategically minded Architectural Lead (Marine) to join our client-side Project Management Consultancy (PMC) team. This specialized role focuses strictly on design review inter-disciplinary coordination and rigorous contractor oversight for marine-specific structures waterfront developments and coastal architectures.

Rather than direct design production this position acts as the primary guardian of architectural intent material durability and spatial functionality across unique marine environments. The ideal candidate will oversee the architectural execution of passenger terminals overwater structures waterfront public realms island developments and specialized marine utility buildings within a high-profile mega-project framework.

Key Responsibilities

Marine Design Review & Assurance: Conduct comprehensive design reviews of architectural submissions for marine and waterfront facilities ensuring strict compliance with coastal building codes client briefs and harsh marine environment specifications.

Waterfront & Overwater Oversight: Provide rigorous supervision during both design and construction phases for overwater pavilions coastal boardwalks marine terminals and island architecture ensuring physical delivery mirrors approved plans.

Marine-Engineering Integration: Lead the complex integration of architectural design with marine engineering coastal hydrology structural pilings and specialized marine utility workstreams to eliminate interface conflicts.

Material & Durability Governance: Review and approve material selections to ensure architectural elements possess maximum resistance to salt spray high humidity UV exposure and tidal movement.

Stakeholder Management: Manage interfaces and technical alignment between the client port/maritime authorities environmental regulators master planners and Tier-1 marine construction contractors.

BIM & Quality Auditing: Review and audit architectural models and workflows (BIM/Revit) ensuring QA/QC compliance and precise space programming unique to maritime and transit facilities.

Requirements

Required Qualifications & Experience

Education: Bachelors degree in Architecture is mandatory.

o Advanced Degree: Masters degree in Architecture or Urban Design (with a focus on coastal or waterfront environments) is preferred.

o Acceptable Alternative: Extensive top-tier design review and site supervision experience on major marine/coastal developments can substitute for postgraduate studies.

Experience Level (PMC Target):

o 1012 years of professional experience with a steady career progression (Architect Senior Architect Architectural Lead).

o Strict Cutoff: Candidates with less than 810 years of experience are not suitable for this position.

Project Profile: Proven experience working on large-scale marine architecture or coastal mega-projects (e.g. ferry/cruise terminals overwater structures marina buildings master-planned waterfront public realms or island developments) is mandatory.

Preferred Background: Previous experience working with reputable international PMC or consultancy firms (such as AECOM Parsons Dar or equivalent) specifically on maritime-adjacent portfolios is highly preferred.

Skills & Competencies

Marine Architecture Expertise: Deep understanding of the unique spatial structural and environmental challenges of building on over or immediately adjacent to the sea.

Oversight Mindset: Exceptional ability to critique coordinate and review complex marine architectural documentation without needing to produce the drawings yourself.

Communication & Diplomacy: Excellent stakeholder management skills with the clarity and authority needed to direct marine contractors and present updates to client and maritime leadership.

Preferred Certifications & Software

Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is preferred.

Professional Architectural License / Registration (AIA RIBA or regional equivalent) is a distinct advantage.

Formal QA/QC Certifications are preferred.

Hands-on proficiency or strong working knowledge of BIM / Revit workflows is preferred.
