Office/Unit/Project Description
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Office of Information Technology and Management (ITM) is a key entity supporting ICT systems and services globally across 155 country offices and partners. The Service Automation Engineering Unit plays a crucial role in enhancing automation solutions that drive efficiency and innovation aligned with UNDPs strategic goals including the Digital Transformation agenda.
The Development Analyst under the supervision of the Service Automation Engineering Specialist will support the design development deployment and maintenance of software applications and automation tools. The analyst will contribute to the technical implementation of solutions using technologies including Rust Python and Docker. This role ensures the integration of modern software development practices and supports innovation in service automation.
UNDP adopts a portfolio approach to accommodate changing business needs and leverage linkages across interventions to achieve its strategic goals. This is a recognition of the interconnected nature of development risks & crises that the world is facing and that call for assembling multidisciplinary teams for an integrated & systemic response. Therefore UNDP personnel are expected to work across issues units functionsteamsand projects in multidisciplinary teamsin order toenhance and enable horizontal collaboration.
Scope of Work
1.Software Development and Implementation
- Design develop test and deploy high-quality production-grade applications using Rust and Python ensuring performance reliability and scalability.
- Architect and build cloud-ready containerized applications using Docker and modern microservices principles to support distributed and scalable systems.
- Collaborate and drive the integration of automation and AI-driven tools with UNDPs enterprise IT ecosystem ensuring seamless interoperability and data flow acrossUNDPIT infrastructure.
- Apply secure coding practices andoptimizeapplications for performance resilience and maintainability in enterprise environments.
2. Technical Support and Maintenance
- Monitor troubleshoot and resolve issues across applications and automation systems ensuring high availability and system reliability.
- Proactivelyidentifyopportunities for performance optimization system enhancements and technical innovation.
- Translate user feedback and operational requirements into iterative improvements and feature enhancements
- EnforceUNDP/ITM standard and industrybest practices in coding standards documentation and version control ensuring maintainable and scalable codebases.
3. Collaboration and Teamwork
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (IT data and business stakeholders) tosupportdesign end-to-end digital solutions that address complex operational challenges.
- Participate in agile development processes and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support knowledge sharing and capacity-building activities within the team.
4. Research innovationand facilitate knowledge management
- Stay updated on emerging trends and technologies related to software development and automation.

5. Reporting and Documentation
- Prepare technical reports user guides and system documentation for developed solutions.
- Contribute to technical documentation solution architecture artifacts and knowledge repositories.

- Support compliance with organizational policies and IT governance requirements.
The incumbent performs other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.

Required Education Experience Skills and Competencies
Minimum Education requirements
Advanced university degree (masters degree or equivalent) inComputer ScienceSoftware Engineering or a related fieldis required Or
A first-level university degree (bachelors degree) in the areas mentioned above in combination with an additional two years of qualifying experience will be given due consideration in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Minimum years of relevant work experience
Minimum of 2 years (with masters degree) or 4 years (with bachelors degree) of relevant work experience preferably inthe area ofsoftware development automation or related areas ideally within an international or UN environment.
Required skills
- Proven experience in Rust Python programming languages.
- Hands-on experience with Docker containerization technology.
- Experiencewith software development lifecycle version control (e.g. Git) and CI/CD pipelines.
Desired skillsin addition to the competencies covered in the Competencies section
- Experience with Microsoft technology stack including experience with Microsoft Azure (cloud services app hosting and identity management) Power Platform (Power Apps Power Automate) and integration with Microsoft 365 services and APIs (e.g. Teams SharePoint Graph API).
