Job Summary

Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking an experienced Senior Sourcing Engineer to join our Global Category Management team. This role will lead the strategic sourcing and category management of either the Particle Optics or EM OEM commodity depending on the successful candidates expertise.

Based in China you will develop and execute sourcing strategies that strengthen supplier capabilities expand localization opportunities optimize total cost and ensure a resilient supply chain. You will collaborate closely with R&D Engineering Operations Quality and Global Category Management teams to support New Product Introduction (NPI) New Product Transfer (NPT) supplier development and strategic sourcing initiatives that drive business growth and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead strategic sourcing and category management for the assigned commodity (Particle Optics or EM OEM).
  • Develop and implement sourcing strategies that improve cost competitiveness supplier capability quality and supply continuity.
  • Identify evaluate qualify and develop suppliers with a strong focus on expanding sourcing capabilities and localization within China.
  • Build and manage strategic supplier relationships while driving continuous improvements in quality delivery cost technology and innovation.
  • Partner with R&D and Engineering teams to support New Product Introduction (NPI) New Product Transfer (NPT) Design for Supply Chain (DfSC) and early supplier involvement throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Lead supplier selection RFQ/RFP activities commercial negotiations contract management and supplier onboarding.
  • Drive cost reduction value engineering localization and productivity initiatives through supplier collaboration and should-cost analysis.
  • Monitor supplier performance and proactively identify and mitigate supply chain risks to ensure business continuity.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Engineering Operations Manufacturing Quality Finance and Global Category Management to achieve sourcing and business objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with Thermo Fisher sourcing policies quality systems and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Analyze market trends supplier capabilities and industry developments to identify sourcing opportunities and strengthen the supply base.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering Supply Chain Management Business Program Management or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in strategic sourcing supplier development commodity management or procurement within a multinational manufacturing environment.
  • Experience sourcing technical or engineered commodities preferably in Particle Optic EM OEM Commodities precision machining electronics electromechanical assemblies or other high-technology manufacturing environments.
  • Proven experience in supplier selection supplier development commercial negotiations contract management and supplier performance management.
  • Strong understanding of strategic sourcing category management and supplier development methodologies.
  • Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) and collaborating with engineering teams throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Strong analytical negotiation project management and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to work effectively across a global matrix organization.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (approximately 25%).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in Life Sciences Medical Devices Analytical Instruments s Electron Microscopy (EM) Semiconductor Precision Manufacturing Electronics Manufacturing or other high-technology industries.
  • Experience developing suppliers and managing sourcing activities across China and the Asia-Pacific region.
  • Knowledge of supplier localization strategies value engineering cost modeling and total cost of ownership (TCO).
  • Experience with SAP or other ERP systems and procurement analytics tools.
  • Professional certifications such as CPSM CSCP or CPM are an advantage.
  • Familiarity with Lean Six Sigma or other continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Fluent in English; Mandarin Chinese proficiency is a must
