As a Software Engineer at Applied Materials youll dive deep into ground-breaking technologieslike machine learning and AIto craft novel software solutions that solve our customers high-value problems. Our Software Engineers are responsible for designing prototyping developing and debugging software solutions for semiconductor equipment components and devices to ensure quality and functionality. Youll develop software documentation and test procedures troubleshoot software problems and communicate with internal customers to understand project requirements. As part of our team youll contribute your expertise in intricate systems deciphering code and anticipating software behaviors to ensure Applied remains the leader in the semiconductor and display sectors.Key Responsibilities
- Design develop test and maintain backend services APIs data models and integration layers.
- Build reliable backend capabilities for web application workflows including request handling validation persistence error handling and service orchestration.
- Collaborate with frontend engineers to define clear and maintainable frontend/backend contracts.
- Work with product QA infrastructure and architecture partners to translate requirements into backend solutions.
- Evaluate technical alternatives make pragmatic design decisions and document important trade-offs.
- Troubleshoot complex issues across application data integration runtime and environment boundaries.
- Write unit tests integration tests and validation utilities to improve backend quality.
- Conduct code reviews focused on API design modularity testability maintainability and operational risk.
- Support CI/CD deployment readiness logging monitoring and production support practices where applicable.
- Mentor junior engineers through code reviews design discussions documentation and technical sharing.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors degree or above in Computer Science Software Engineering Electrical Engineering Automation Applied Mathematics or a related field.
- 7 years of relevant software engineering experience.
- Strong hands-on backend development experience using Python or similar programming languages.
- Experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs or backend services for production applications.
- Solid understanding of object-oriented programming modular design clean code and maintainable architecture.
- Experience with Docker Kubernetes Linux cloud platforms observability logging monitoring or scalable system design.
- Experience with relational or NoSQL databases and reliable data access patterns.
- Experience with unit testing integration testing debugging Git-based workflows code review and CI/CD.
- Ability to analyze requirements clarify ambiguity evaluate trade-offs and deliver solutions independently.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across engineering product QA and infrastructure teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with backend frameworks such as FastAPI Flask Django or similar technologies.
- Experience building backend services for complex web applications enterprise applications engineering software or data-driven platforms.
- Experience with API contract design schema validation versioning and backward-compatible API evolution.
- Experience with asynchronous processing long-running tasks workflow orchestration or distributed systems.
- Experience with performance profiling troubleshooting query optimization or backend reliability improvements.
- Experience mentoring engineers or leading backend design discussions.
