Job Summary

Role purpose

We are seeking a talented and motivated research scientist with entomology experience to join the Trait Discovery team of Syngenta Group Beijing Innovation center China.  The primary responsibilities of this role are to provide technical expertise and hands-on skills in insect rearing insect bioassays genetic and molecular studies which include operation and optimization efforts.  The candidate will work in a collaborative environment contributing to the cross-disciplinary innovations for the identification and development of the next generation insect control traits for Seeds business.

Accountabilities

  • Design experiments and conduct insect bioassays to quantify insecticidal activities of different types of samples
  • Develop new or improve existing insect bioassays for better efficiency accuracy and throughput
  • Develop and optimize insect rearing protocols rear maintain and characterize insect colonies (including but not limited to lepidopteran)
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate insect-related work with other aspects to contribute to gene discovery trait development and mode-of-action research
  • Conduct lab molecular biology and biochemical experiments to support project needs
  • Maintain detailed records of experiments analyze and interpret experimental data prepare technical reports and present findings to project teams and stakeholders. 
  • Manage lab operations (inventories and equipment) related with insect rearing and bioassays
  • Stay current with the latest developments in insect biology and insect control research and propose new research ideas
  • Performs all activities in compliance with company quality management IP and HSE guidance

Qualifications :

Knowledge experience & capabilities

 

  • Ph.D in entomology-focused majors trained in entomology as well as molecular biology and biochemistry
  • Proficiency in designing and conducting different types of insect bioassays and insect rearing
  • Strong background and research experiences in insect genomics and insect genetics  
  • Experience in genetically modifying insects are highly desirable
  • Proficiency in molecular biology and biochemical techniques such as gene cloning SDS-PAGE Western blotting and etc.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot experimental challenges. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. 
  • Excellent communication skills in both English (written and spoken) and Mandarin
  • Self-motivated hard-working down-to-earth mature and team-oriented
