We are seeking a PSA Engineer (Probabilistic Safety Assessment) to join our Safety & Licensing Department and play a key role in establishing the safety case risk-informed design framework and regulatory readiness of our advanced reactor technology.

Position Overview

As a PSA Engineer you will be responsible for performing comprehensive Probabilistic Safety Assessment (PSA) and Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA) activities for advanced nuclear reactor systems.

You will develop risk models evaluate plant response under complex failure scenarios analyze severe accident progression and provide quantitative safety insights that directly influence reactor design optimization and licensing strategies.

This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the safety foundation of a next-generation Advanced Modular Reactor (AMR) and support its successful review by international nuclear regulatory authorities.

Key Responsibilities

1. PSA/PRA Model Development & Risk Analysis

  • Develop and maintain PSA/PRA models for advanced reactor systems.
  • Perform accident sequence analysis including:
    • Event tree analysis
    • Fault tree analysis
    • System reliability assessment
  • Evaluate key safety risk metrics including:
    • Core Damage Frequency (CDF)
    • Large Early Release Frequency (LERF)
  • Conduct reliability sensitivity and uncertainty analyses.

2. Risk-Informed Reactor Design Support

  • Apply probabilistic risk insights to support reactor design optimization.
  • Evaluate safety impacts of system architecture changes and design modifications.
  • Identify potential risk contributors and recommend mitigation strategies.
  • Support integration between PSA results and engineering design decisions.

3. Nuclear Safety Analysis & Licensing Support

  • Prepare PSA-related technical documentation and safety analysis reports.
  • Support regulatory review processes and licensing submissions.
  • Respond to technical questions from regulatory authorities and independent safety reviewers.
  • Ensure compliance with international nuclear safety requirements and risk assessment practices.

4. Severe Accident & Safety System Analysis

  • Support severe accident analysis and risk evaluation activities.
  • Analyze:
    • Emergency cooling systems
    • Passive safety systems
    • Severe accident progression
  • Support integration of PSA results with:
    • Severe Accident Management Guidelines (SAMG)
    • Source term evaluations

Qualifications & Requirements

Education

  • Masters degree or Ph.D. in:
    • Nuclear Engineering
    • Safety Engineering
    • Systems Engineering
    • Related technical disciplines

Technical Skills

  • Strong understanding of PSA/PRA methodologies and nuclear safety analysis.
  • Familiarity with qualitative risk assessment methods including:
    • FMEA
    • HAZOP
    • LOPA
    • Risk Matrix Analysis
  • Hands-on experience with PSA/PRA software tools such as:
    • RiskSpectrum
    • CAFTA
    • SAPHIRE
    • Equivalent platforms
  • Understanding of:
    • Reactor system architectures
    • Emergency cooling systems
    • Transient thermal-hydraulic behavior

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with the following experience will be highly valued:

  • Experience performing PSA/PRA studies for:
    • Commercial nuclear power plants
    • Small Modular Reactors (SMRs)
    • Advanced Reactor Systems
    • Research reactors
  • Knowledge of:
    • Severe Accident Management (SAMG)
    • Severe accident analysis methodologies
    • Source term calculation tools such as:
      • MELCOR
      • MAAP
  • Familiarity with international nuclear licensing frameworks and regulatory review processes.
