Narrative Writer(Contractor)

Scopely is looking for a Narrative Writer(Contractor) to join our Slate Development Group in Shanghai China on a hybrid basis!

Slate Development Group owns Scopelys editorial and content strategy including the companys greenlighting Game Development Framework (GDF) studio strategy (organic and inorganic) and slate-wide budget and investment strategy.

What You Will Do

As a Narrative Writer you will be responsible for detailing an original alternate-future setting that is internally consistent scientifically grounded and compelling to our players as well as working with the team to refine and integrate the setting with a variety of in-depth game systems. They will assist the Narrative Lead in all narrative efforts on this game. This role requires a grounded experienced creative individual who leads with generosity and puts our players first and is capable of working with external devs and brand stakeholders.

The Narrative Writer will report to the Narrative Lead and oversee the following areas:

• Worldbuilding - backstory setting societies characters
• Character dialogue (VO)
• Story arc support
• Feature Narratives
• Other in-game text such as LOC strings
• Marketing Narrative support
• Develop worldbuilding documents characters and major story arcs for an original IP cross-platform multiplayer game with a high social component. Oversee ongoing maintenance of all documentation.
• Collaborate with the Creative Director Art Director External Devs Brand partners and other game team leadership to ensure that narrative is a seamless part of the overall game experience.
• Ensure that all narrative content is high quality and delivered on time.

What Were Looking For

• 2-3 years of relevant experience in writing for games.
• The ideal candidate will be experienced in writing for ARPGs or MMORPGs specifically.
• Strong understanding of heroic action IP including character fantasy aspirational tone high-stakes conflict and player-facing storytelling that supports action-driven gameplay. Familiarity with comic-inspired worlds and ensemble hero narratives is highly valued.
• First-hand experience of how players interact in online multiplayer games.
• People-first collaboration and leadership style.
• Understanding of game design principles and best practices.
• Superb analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Desire to create an incredibly cool game that millions of people will love.
• Fluent in both English and Mandarin
