Job Summary

Position Title: MS Social Studies/Language Arts Teacher
Division: Middle School
Supervisor: Principal/Assistant Principal
Position Summary:
Concordia Middle School (Grade 6 to Grade 8) is seeking an experienced Language Arts and Social Studies Teacher who can teach a combination of Language Arts and Social Studies classes with dedicated instructional blocks for each subject.
  • In Language Arts the teacher will develop students reading writing speaking listening and communication skills through engaging and meaningful texts and learning experiences.
  • In Social Studies the teacher will foster students understanding of history geography culture civics and global issues through inquiry critical thinking analysis of evidence and exploration of diverse perspectives.
Across both subjects the teacher will create an inclusive student-centered learning environment that encourages curiosity effective communication critical thinking and meaningful connections to the world. It is preferred that this teacher either have Reading & Writing Workshop experience or be willing to receive training prior to their arrival in August.
In order to meet Concordia school-wide learning outcomes (SLOs) and grade level expectations the teacher carries out the following broad and specific responsibilities across the following domains: Planning and Preparation Classroom Management Instruction and Professional Responsibilities.
Concordia seeks educators who are familiar with embrace MTSS and UDL designing lessons that meet diverse learning needs and provide equitable opportunities for every student.
Requirements:
Education
  • Bachelors Degree in relevant subject area.
  • A certification in education.
  • Advanced degree or specialization training that supports the teaching role preferred.
Experience
  • Minimum 2 years successful teaching in a school setting.
  • Teaching in the subject area and with the age of students assigned.
  • Working successfully with an ethnically diverse population.
  • Working with students with learning differences.
  • Working with students who are English Language Learners (ELL).
  • Working in an international school setting and familiarity with the American educational system preferred.
  • Creating units of work using Universal by Design (UbD) strategies preferred.
Skills
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the developmental needs and milestones of students in the age group you are teaching.
  • Knowledgeable about:
  • Developing appropriate practices
  • Using a variety of formative assessments progress monitoring tools and differentiated learning strategies
  • The content and pedagogy
  • Effective communicator communicates well with a diverse community of parents staff and leaders; proficient writing skills.
  • Highly skillful at using and integrating technology.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Additional employment expectations:
  • Collaborate with Support Staff in working with or monitoring children and managing clerical expectations and guidelines for these adults in the learning environment and help them understand their roles/responsibilities.
  • Undertake additional duties that may reasonably be assigned or requested by the Supervisor such as leading student trips serving as chaperon roles as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
