Global Commodity Manager
Job Summary
The Global Commodity Manager Key Tech & OEM is responsible for defining and executing global sourcing strategies for the assigned commodity. This role ensures costeffective procurement strong supplier performance robust risk mitigation and alignment with business objectives across all regions.
The Global Commodity Manager works closely with regional Commodity Managers Project Procurement Managers and crossfunctional stakeholders including R&D Operations Quality and Finance to drive value creation innovation and supply stability across the assigned supplier base.
The Key Tech & OEM commodity at Leica Microsystems is a complex and strategically critical area characterized by a high degree of flexibility and diversity. It includes a broad portfolio of products such as cameras laboratory equipment lighting systems motors and other precision components.
This position reports to the Director Global Direct Sourcing and is based on-site in Shanghai.
Key Responsibilities
In this role you will have the opportunity to:
- Lead negotiations with assigned suppliers to secure optimal pricing commercial terms and contractual conditions
- Develop and implement global commodity strategies aligned with corporate objectives while addressing regional business needs
- Continuously monitor and enhance supplier performance across quality delivery cost sustainability and innovation
- Contribute to make-or-buy decisions and total cost of ownership (TCO) analyses
- Support the integrity and performance of procurement systems by ensuring highquality data for reporting analytics and decisionmaking
- Actively support New Product Introduction (NPI) projects by providing sourcing insights including supplier capabilities performance data cost estimates material availability lead times and market intelligence
Qualifications & Requirements
The essential requirements of the role include:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Engineering Industrial Engineering Supply Chain Management or a related field
- More than 10 years of experience in procurement sourcing commodity/category management or supply chain within a manufacturing environment
- Strong track record in price and contract negotiations ideally within highmix lowvolume (HMLV) environments
- Excellent communication collaboration and stakeholder management skills in a global matrixed organization
- Fluency in English at a professional negotiation level
Additional Preferences
Experience in the following areas is considered an advantage:
- SAP eprocurement tools Microsoft Office Suite and Power BI
- Stakeholder management in multinational matrix organizations
- Proven ability to drive continuous improvement initiatives to increase efficiency and reduce costs
Travel
- Willingness to travel internationally (up to 30%)
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
- SAP e-procurement tools and Microsoft Office Suite and Power BI.
- Stakeholder management in a matrixed multinational organization.
- Proven track record of implementing continuous process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce costs
