Job Summary

Were hiring: EHS Consultant China

Location: Beijing China
Contract: Independent Consultant / Contractor for an FTC (Full-Time Contract)
Duration: Minimum 12 months starting October 2026
Coverage: Beijing Shanghai Shenzhen & Macau
Languages: Mandarin & English

Were looking for an experienced EHS professional to take ownership of Environmental Health & Safety activities across multiple corporate locations in China.

This is a senior hands-on consulting assignment where youll operate as the primary EHS subject matter expert for China working closely with regional APAC leadership and local stakeholders.

What youll be doing:

Lead EHS compliance across multiple sites in China
Ensure compliance with Chinese occupational health safety environmental and fire safety legislation
Implement global EHS standards while adapting them to local regulatory requirements
Conduct workplace risk assessments audits and compliance reviews
Manage statutory reporting and regulatory documentation
Lead incident and near-miss investigations including root cause analysis
Develop and track corrective action plans
Prepare EHS metrics dashboards and management-level reporting
Deliver EHS training communications and awareness programmes
Support emergency preparedness fire safety and business continuity activities
Work with Workplace Facilities HR Security landlords contractors and business leaders
Engage with regulators and support regulatory inspections where required
Contribute to wider APAC EHS programmes

What we need:

A China-recognised EHS qualification/certification in Occupational Safety and Fire Engineering such as Certified Safety Engineer or equivalent
Degree or professional qualification in Occupational Health & Safety Environmental Management Engineering or a related discipline
Minimum 5 years senior-level EHS experience
Proven experience managing EHS across multiple locations
Experience within multinational corporate environments
Strong knowledge of Chinese EHS occupational safety and fire safety legislation
Experience with audits risk assessments incident investigations and regulatory compliance
Confidence working independently and influencing senior stakeholders
Professional proficiency in both Mandarin and English

What will make you particularly relevant:

Youve previously been the person people turn to when there is an EHS question rather than someone who simply supports the person making the decision.

Youre comfortable balancing global corporate EHS standards with the realities of Chinese legislation and local regulatory requirements and youve managed compliance across more than one site.

Some travel within China will be required including support across Beijing Shanghai Shenzhen and Macau.
