Web Content and User Experience Specialist, Library

Summary:

Reporting totheInformation Technologyand Discovery LibrariantheWebContentand User ExperienceSpecialist supports the maintenanceassessment and continuous improvement of the University Librarys web presenceincluding Cascade andLibGuides. Workingcollaboratively with library staff web editors and campus partners the position helps ensure web content isaccessible user-focused current and alignedwith institutional standards and best practices.

Thisrolecontributesexpertisein web content management usability accessibility analytics and digital communications to support an effective and consistent online user experience.

Thepositionrequires initiative analytical thinking andstrong collaboration skills. TheWeb Content and User ExperienceSpecialistevaluatesweb content and user feedbackidentifiesopportunities for improvementanalyzeswebsiteanalytics and recommendsenhancementsthat support an effective online independently within established web governance frameworks the position applies professionalexpertiseand judgement to assess content quality accessibilityusability and digital user experience recommending improvements that support libraryobjectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Web contentcoordination and improvement

• Applyexpertiseinweb contentmanagement systems( Cascade etc.) information architecture accessibility standards and user experience to support and improve theLibrarysweb presence.
• Applywebaccessibilitystandardsand best practicesin the review and improvement of library web content(e.g. WCAG).
• Plan and conduct web content audits accessibility reviews and usability assessmentsidentifyingopportunities for improvement and recommendingchanges.
• Assistwith the development and maintenance of content review schedules workflows and documentation.
• Monitor content quality andidentifyoutdated duplicate or high-risk content requiring review.
• Support content lifecycle activities including review revision archiving and removal of obsolete content.
• Contribute tomigration and restructuring activities asrequired.

User Experience and Accessibility

• Conduct usability testing user feedback activities and content evaluationsof library websitestoidentifybarriers and opportunities for improvement.
• Prepare reports and summaries on website usage engagement searchbehaviour and emerging trends.
• Contribute evidence-based recommendations to support website enhancements and digital service improvements.
• Conductassessment activities related to web services content quality and user experience.

Analytics & Reporting

• Generate regular web analytics reports (usage engagement searchbehaviour).
• Analyze trends andidentifyopportunities for improvement.
• Prepare reports and recommendations that support decision making by library committees and web governanceteams.
• Support data-informed decision making for web design and content priorities.

Training& Support

• Develop andmaintainguidance materials documentation and resources for web editors.
• Deliver training and onboarding support to distributed content contributors.
• Promote awareness of established web standards and best practices.
• Serves as a resource to library staffon matters relating to web accessibility usability content management and digital content best practices.

Digital Projects

• Contribute todigital initiatives requiring web content usability accessibility or user experienceexpertise.
• Contribute to website enhancements and digital projects through analysis consultation testing and implementation support.
• Assistproject teams in applying user-centered design and content best practices.

Qualifications:

Education

• Undergraduate degree technical diploma or equivalent combination of education training and relevant experience incommunications information studies digital media web design user experience ora relatedfield.

Experience

• A minimum of three years of relevant experience supporting websites digital content user experience activities web communications or relatedfunctions.

• Experience working with content management systems (CMS)( Drupal or equivalent).
• Knowledge of web accessibilityprinciples and WCAG standards.
• Understanding of user experience usabilitytestingand user-centred design methods.
• Experience interpreting web analytics and translating findings into recommendations.
• Knowledge of information architecturewebcontentlifecycle management and content governance practices.
• Strong written communication and documentation skills.

Desirable

• Knowledge of accessibility principles and standards ().
• Experience conducting usability testing and/or user research.
• Experience with Google Analytics or similar tools.
• Knowledge of information architecture and/or content strategy.
• Experience developing documentation training materials or support resources.

Assets

• Experience supporting academicor post-secondary education websites.
• Familiarity with library websitesresearch/library guides or academic service environments.
• Experience providing training or consultation to distributed content contributors.
