Compensation & Placement Salary isdetermined by the Havergal Faculty Grid ranging from $74711 $106714 forearly-career faculty and $107078 $140448 for those with 6 years ofexperience. Final placement is based on recognized teaching years degrees andAdditional Qualifications (AQs).

The Position

The Upper School at Havergal College offersstudents a stimulating inclusive and supportive learning environment. We areseeking a passionate Spanish teacher who designs engaging learning experiencessupports diverse learners builds strong relationships with students andfamilies and contributes positively to our collaborative faculty culture. Webelieve language learning empowers students to communicate with confidencethink across cultures and engage meaningfully with diverse perspectives. Our programfosters authentic communication intercultural understanding curiosity and awillingness to take risks as learners.

Planning and Preparation ofLearning

• Understand how to use knowledge of studentdevelopmental stages and current educational research to make appropriate andthoughtful instructional decisions.
• Work in collaboration with the Upper SchoolDepartment Head to develop content knowledge and to deliver a consistentaligned and rigorous program of study.
• Develop effective long-range unit and lesson plansthat demonstrate the principles of a teaching for understanding framework andreflect the Ontario curriculum expectations.
• Demonstrate an understanding of assessment principlesreflective of current assessment practices;
• Work in collaboration with other faculty to developintegrated units of study.
• Model best practices for using technology in theclassroom to support the curriculum and students developmental stages.

Setting the Learning Environment

• Demonstrate compassion acceptance insight andinterest for developing students potential and capacity.
• Model the schools values through actions and wordswhen dealing with students parents and other adults in the school.
• Demonstrate an understanding that students learnthrough active intellectual engagement.
• Create a trusting learning environment for studentsby acting consistently fairly openly and honestly and by having clearexpectations for all students.
• Ensure appropriate behaviour in the classroom and onschool property.
• Create a learning environment where student thinkingis visible valued and part of their everyday experiences.
• Create a safe and engaging learning space reflectiveof the developmental needs of students.

Instructional Practices

• Ensure instructional practices reflect advancedplanning and preparation and the time available.
• Ensure questions and instructional strategies promotestudent thinking and extend their understanding knowledge and skills.
• Use relevant pedagogy assessment and evaluation andresources and technology in planning for and responding to the individual needsof students.
• Ensure student learning is appropriately documentedand reported.

Professional Responsibilities

• Uphold the professional and ethical standards ofpractice as defined by the Ontario College of Teachers.
• Actively participate in professional growthactivities (membership in professional learning communities completingprofessional reading setting professional learning goals).
• Maintain consistent professional supportive andencouraging relationships with colleagues.
• Ensure compliance with all school policies andpractices and maintain all required documentation.
• Maintain an open line of communication with parentsand work with them as partners in their daughters educational journey.
• Actively participate in the life of the schooloutside of the classroom.

• Bachelor ofEducation and Intermediate/Senior qualifications in Spanish (or equivalent).
• OntarioCollege of Teachers certification (or equivalent) in Good Standing.
• Strongknowledge of the Ontario Secondary School Languages curriculum and GrowingSuccess.
• Demonstratedexcellence in language instruction and supporting diverse learners.
• Excellentinterpersonal organizational and communication skills.
• Commitment tocollaboration continuous professional learning and student wellbeing.
• Willingnessto contribute to the co-curricular life of the school.
• Experience inan independent school is an asset.
