Upper School Guidance Counsellor

This is a full-timeposition starting in September 2026 with a particular focus on Grades 7 to 9students.

Compensation & Placement Salary isdetermined by the Havergal Faculty Grid ranging from $74711 $106714 forearly-career faculty and $107078 $140448 for those with 6 years ofexperience. Final placement is based on recognized teaching years degrees andAdditional Qualifications (AQs).

The Position:

The GuidanceDepartment at Havergal College oversees academic and post-secondary counsellingand supports the social-emotional development of high-performing drivenstudents in Grades 712. As a guidance counsellorin this department you will coach and monitor the wellbeing of a caseload ofstudents overseeing their progress throughout their Upper School years atHavergal and assisting them in discovering their values and purpose and in developingagency. You will work with a collaborative dynamic department to supportfaculty as they develop strategies and approaches to meet the needs of adiverse and exceptional group of learners. You will share your expertise withparents and the broader community.

As an experienced guidance counsellor and/or educatoryou will:

• Be practiced in the individualcoaching and counselling of a diverse student body.
• Develop engaging and dynamicgroup programming (academic & social-emotional).
• Bring empathy approachabilityauthenticity and innovation to your work with students.
• Bring lifelong learning to theschool and demonstrate a commitment to professional development and growth.

This faculty role reports directly to the Director of Guidance (7-9)and US Learning Support. This role also works collaboratively with othermembers of the Student Support team (Learning Support Social Workers HealthCentre Chaplain) as well as the Head and Assistant Heads of the Upper School.

Energy and a willingness tocontribute to the diverse life of the school community are expected includingthe co-curricular club and global education programs.

SpecificAccountabilities:

• Provides academic counselling to Upper Schoolstudents with a particular focus on Grades 7-9.
• Coaches and monitors studentssocial-emotional development overseeing their progress throughout their UpperSchool years at Havergal and assisting them indiscovering their values and purpose and in developing agency.
• Supports all learners with diverse strategiesand approaches and is willing to bring innovative solutions to the challengesstudents experience.
• Demonstrates an approach to counselling thatis reflective of best practices in supporting adolescent girls.
• Collaborates with and supports faculty inaddressing the social-emotional and academic needs of students assisting themin developing strategies and approaches to meet the needs of a diverse group oflearners.
• Works with a collaborative and dynamic StudentSupport team to proactively look at individual student and broader communitywellbeing programming and supports.
• Builds positive trusting relationships withparents and caregivers and shares expertise with parents and the broadercommunity.
• Understands and respects the confidentialnature of the work associated with this position.
• Maintains exceptional documentation ensuringstudent support files are accurate and current.

Qualifications Knowledge and Experience

• A relevant university degree including aBachelor of Education or equivalent.
• Additional qualifications in Guidance and/orrelevant graduate training.
• Experience in academic and personalcounselling with adolescents with an accompanying toolbox of strategies forfacilitating student success in all areas of student life specifcally forGrades 7 to 9 students.
• Teaching experience in an intermediate andsecondary school setting (Grades 7 12) and a solid understanding of theOntario Ministry of Educations curriculum.
• Knowledge of current research on girlsespecially as it relates to learning social and emotional development mentalhealth and strategies for promoting overall wellbeing.
• Strong interpersonal organizational andtime-management skills.
• Exceptional communication skills - written andverbal with a proven ability to be compassionate and clear.
• Comfort using technology for informationstorage retrieval and communication as well as familiarity and comfortnavigating post-secondary application/information portals (OUAC UCAS CommonApp etc.)
• An ability to work in a collaborativeenvironment.
• A commitment toward continued professionaldevelopment and growth.
• Energy commitment and a readiness toparticipate in co-curricular activities. club global/experiential educationprograms and the diverse life of the school community.
• Experience in an independent school settingand additional qualifications in Special Education will be considered assets.
