Description

In accordance with the Vision Purpose and Values and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at VIHA; as such the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

The VIHA TB Clinic provides leadership in tuberculosis (TB) prevention and control through the provision of expert consultation services and activities related to the surveillance detection prevention and treatment of TB and related diseases.

Under the supervision of the Manager or designate and in collaboration with the TB Clinic Medical Director the TB Case Manager acts as a consultant on TB prevention and control providing formal advise to other nursing staff and health care professionals. The TB Case Manager is responsible for the provision of assessment counseling and consultation to individuals and their families. The TB Case Manager supervises TB Clinic nursing activities and works cooperatively with other professional staff and agencies to increase health expectancy and quality of life.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education Training And Experience

Graduation from a recognized nursing program including community health nursing. Registration with BC College of Nurses and Midwives as a practicing RN registrant or a practicing RPN registrant. Licensed to practice nursing in British Columbia under the Health Professionals Act. Three to 5 years work experience in a TB Control program or equivalent and previous experience working with vulnerable populations. Current CPR level BLS-C (Basic 1) certificate. Valid BC drivers license (incumbents may be required to use their own vehicle on a compensation for mileage basis)

Skills And Abilities
  • Proficiency in use of the TB module of iPHIS (Public Health Information System)
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interact effectively with professional staff children youth and families and public.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate own work schedule and to follow relevant law regulations and agency policies.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team is essential to this role.
  • Ability to deliver empathetic/non-judgmental care and to relate well with people from a wide variety of socio-economic and cultural environments.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the job.
