As a Truck Driver at Drax you will play a key role in supporting safe and efficient fibre operations by transporting and managing materials between the Weyerhaeuser site and the Princeton Pellet Plant. This is a hands-on position for someone who enjoys staying active working independently and contributing to a team-focused operation. You will start your journey with Drax as a Labourer gaining valuable exposure to a variety of plant operations while developing the skills needed to succeed in multiple areas of the business.
Working a 12-hour shift schedule (currently three shifts per week with future adjustments as operational requirements evolve) youll enjoy a dynamic environment where no two days are the same there is always meaningful work to be done and opportunities to learn are around every corner. Your Day-to-Day as a Truck Driver
- Perform pre-trip inspections in accordance with safety regulations before operating a vehicle and complete additional inspections when switching trucks.
- Safely and efficiently empty sawmill sawdust and planer shavings bins at the Gorman mill.
- Transport and dump fibre on the Princeton site.
- Ensure scale data entry is accurate.
- Ensure fibre tickets are recorded and submitted to the office for record-keeping.
- Participate in site safety objectives and targets.
- Maintain housekeeping standards on the truck and ensure it is left clean and fuelled for the next shift.
- Conduct plant housekeeping and clean-up activities as directed by the Lead Hand and/or management.
- Operate a skid steer for housekeeping tasks.
- Operate a loader for housekeeping tasks in the fibre yard or assist the loader operator with sorting fibre as required.
- Assist with loader operations when the PCC yard is backed up.
- Conduct routine vehicle maintenance including: Checking and adjusting brakes daily as required washing the truck on Wednesday day shifts and greasing the truck on Friday day shifts while washing when necessary.
- Perform minor repairs as needed including replacing lights and inflating tires.
- Accurately document and log all repairs inspections and maintenance activities maintaining a separate logbook for each unit.
- Train in the Control Room Operator role with the expectation of becoming a certified Control Room Operator.
- Cover weekday Truck Driver shifts as required to support PTO and sick leave coverage.
- Weekend drivers are responsible for ensuring bins at Similkameen Forest Products are emptied by 3:30 AM Sunday before the end of their shift.
