RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides support and services to women and gender diverse individuals temporarily residingwithin the Transitional Living Program of YWCA Hamilton who are experiencing homelessness and / or are fleeing gender-based violence. Supports include housing searches coordination and accompaniment to unit viewings liaising with prospective landlords referrals housing systems navigation support coordination of needs as individual transitions into permanent housing.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Works collaboratively with women and gender diverse individuals in the areas of housing legal education employment and mental health to establish and maintain a plan to assist them with a safe and effective path to independence;

Conducts check ins of tenant needs and safety plans;

Applies the knowledge of the issues of trauma and the dynamics of gender-based violence to develop and implement effective support strategies;

Works within general rules procedures and standards referring issues or problems tosupervisor;

Keeps records on day to day happenings enters client information/daily events into an electronic data information system for reports and statistics;

Communicates advocates and collaborates with community agencies (e.g. courts legal services housing) to provide resources and referrals to tenants

Offers systems navigation crisis intervention supportive counselling referrals and advocacy;

Provides programming and co- facilitates workshops focused on housing readiness (e.g. organizing safety plans anger management);

Works alongside Advocate and Peer Support teams to determine actions case planning and goals for assigned clients

Provides crisis intervention and counselling support for women and their children as needed;

Maintains high level of confidentiality when working with sensitive and personal client employee and contract information;

Supports YWCA Hamilton mission vision and values;

Performs other duties as required.

UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Works 37.5 hours weekly within a temporary contract position and is required to be available for weekday weekend and evening shifts as required to support tenant appointments and viewings.

Work environment may be unpredictable and crisis oriented at times; regularly works in emotional charged situations requiring resolution;


QUALIFICATIONS

Equivalent to completion of 2 years college in social work or human services;

1 to 3 years experience working with crisis management homelessness and violence against women settings

Working knowledge of the Child and Family Services Act and Landlord Tenant Act

Knowledge of harm reduction frameworks and strategies and Naloxone training an asset

Experience in trauma informed care and familiar with Hamilton resources and systems navigation

Knowledge and experience in safety planning relation to gender-based violence and mental health

Experience in housing stability housing first and evection prevention principles an asset

First Aid NCI/CPI ASSIST certificates an asset;

Knowledge of social housing practices and applicable legislation

Bilingual English/French or other languages is an asset.
