Description

In accordance with the Vision Purpose and Values and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone at VIHA; as such the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting to the Technical Coordinator Point of Care the Technical Resource Point of Care is responsible for providing technical and educational support to Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA) point of care test operators and maintaining quality assurance programs and device data management software at designated sites. Under the direction of the Technical Coordinator performs method and device evaluations interprets results and develops technical procedures. Performs routine and additional laboratory procedures related to point of care testing as required. Travel will be a requirement of this position. Transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of the VIHA in accordance with the service assignment and may require the use of a personal vehicle.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education Training And Experience
  • Knowledge of laboratory procedure and techniques.
  • Successful completion of recognized competency assessment exam and registration in the relevant field(s) of practice in accordance with the Canadian Alliance of Medical Laboratory Professionals Regulators (CAMLPR) pathways or certification with the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS).
Skills And Abilities
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to teach provide orientation coach and conduct presentations
  • Ability to operate related equipment including a variety of computer software applications such as Word Excel PowerPoint and Visio
  • Ability to prepare concise and accurate written reports and document procedures and processes for manuals
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships both internally and externally
  • Demonstrated ability to keep up-to-date on procedural changes and new equipment
  • Ability to effectively deal with conflict situations new or unexpected events and implement appropriate problem-solving processes
  • Ability to demonstrate professional judgment leadership and team building skills
  • Ability to plan and organize workload establish priorities and accomplish objectives.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
