Job Summary

Systems Engineering Lead is responsible for providing technical direction systems engineering governance and multidisciplinary integration across light rail transit (LRT) infrastructure programs in Toronto Ontario Canada.

The role oversees the development integration verification and validation of complex transit systems including rolling stock signalling and train control traction power infrastructure fare collection systems and operations and maintenance facilities. Working across design procurement integration testing and commissioning phases the position ensures that technical solutions satisfy project requirements operational objectives safety expectations and stakeholder needs throughout the system lifecycle.

The ideal candidate brings 12 years of systems engineering experience within rail or transit environments including leadership responsibility on multidisciplinary transportation infrastructure projects. Experience in requirements management systems integration technical assurance and verification activities is essential together with the ability to guide technical teams and support project delivery in regulated transit environments

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide systems engineering leadership and technical governance across rolling stock signalling power infrastructure fare systems and OMSF disciplines.
  • Develop and maintain the Systems Engineering Management Plan including requirements management verification and validation processes.
  • Lead requirements definition analysis allocation and traceability activities from system-level requirements through subsystem specifications.
  • Conduct technical design reviews and ensure engineering solutions satisfy functional operational and performance requirements.
  • Coordinate systems engineering activities with interface management systems integration and discipline engineering teams.
  • Establish and maintain system architecture to support integrated technical design across project systems.
  • Lead trade studies and technical assessments to support engineering decision-making and system performance optimization.
  • Manage requirements traceability and oversee verification and validation activities to demonstrate compliance.
  • Perform technical risk management activities and develop mitigation strategies for system-level risks.
  • Support procurement processes through technical specification reviews and contractor proposal evaluations.
  • Provide technical guidance related to operating concepts degraded-mode operations and emergency response procedures.
  • Ensure engineering solutions support 1435 mm gauge track low-floor LRV operations and transit signal priority functionality.
  • Mentor engineering personnel and support the development of systems engineering capability across the project team.

Qualifications :

Required

  • Bachelors degree in Systems Engineering Electrical Engineering Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (.) designation.
  • Minimum 12 years of progressive systems engineering experience within rail transit or transportation infrastructure projects.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in technical leadership systems management or multidisciplinary engineering leadership roles.
  • Expert knowledge of systems engineering principles methodologies requirements management and lifecycle processes.
  • Comprehensive understanding of light rail transit systems including rolling stock signalling systems traction power systems control systems and operational infrastructure.
  • Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams on complex infrastructure programs.
  • Strong requirements management experience using IBM DOORS or equivalent requirements management platforms.
  • Experience performing verification validation integration and compliance management activities.
  • Strong analytical technical problem-solving and stakeholder coordination skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information to diverse audiences.

Preferred 

  • Masters degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • INCOSE ASEP or CSEP certification.
  • Experience applying Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies.
  • Experience with MBSE tools and digital systems engineering environments.
  • Experience supporting large-scale transit expansion or light rail delivery programs.
  • Experience leading technical assurance testing and commissioning activities.
  • Knowledge of transit operations planning service reliability and system performance monitoring.
