About the Role
The System Administrators role is to ensure the optimal performance stability and integrity of the organizations systems infrastructure. This includes planning developing installing configuring maintaining supporting and optimizing all hardware software and telecommunications.
The System Administrator will:
- Maintain network efficiency troubleshoot issues and ensure necessary system updates and improvements.
- Administer and support on premise infrastructure and Microsoft 365 services including Exchange Online SharePoint Teams and OneDrive SD-WAN and ZTNA VPN.
- Collaboratively assess technology needs and system requirements.
- Assist in developing short and long-term capacity planning for hardware software network and infrastructure needs.
- Develop and maintain documentation and end-user guides.
- Implement software releases rollouts and vendor supplied patches according to change management best practices.
- Field incoming requests to ensure courteous timely and effective resolution of end-user issues.
- Install configure maintain and troubleshoot associated end-user workstation hardware and software.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Strong technical knowledge of networking wireless servers virtualization active directory email unified communications network protocols and computer operating systems.
- Comprehensive hands-on hardware software and network troubleshooting skills.
- Knowledge of IT compliance cybersecurity fundamentals and security best practices.
- Sound knowledge of voice over internet protocol (VOIP) phone technologies.
- Excellent oral and written communication organizational interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
- Strong end-user service orientation.
Qualifications and Experience
- Post-secondary diploma or bachelors degree in Computer Science Information Technology or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.
- Minimum five years of experience as a System Administrator supporting IT infrastructure across multiple locations.
- Working knowledge of enterprise storage systems including NAS SAN RAID LUNs and SMB/NFS file shares including configuration access permissions and security controls.
- Experience administering backup and recovery systems including backup and restore operations monitoring troubleshooting disaster recovery and business continuity processes.
- Demonstrated experience troubleshooting network connectivity and infrastructure including VLANs subnetting VPNs routing TCP/IP DNS UDP and ICMP across servers workstations and network-connected devices.
- Experience managing and troubleshooting virtualized server environments including VMware vSphere/ESXi and Microsoft Hyper-V including virtual machine configuration resource allocation templates server hardware maintenance and lifecycle management.
- Working knowledge of Windows Server and Linux environments including Active Directory DNS DHCP IIS Group Policy SSH and system services.
- Experience using PowerShell Bash or similar scripting and automation tools to support system administration and improve operational efficiency.
- Demonstrated experience managing user accounts access permissions role-based access multi-factor authentication (MFA) and identity synchronization between on-premises environments and Microsoft Entra ID.
- Experience performing operating system application and firmware updates maintaining endpoint security tools and supporting firewall and network security controls.
- Working knowledge of monitoring logging and alerting tools used to assess system performance availability capacity and infrastructure health.
- Experience supporting audio-visual and collaboration technologies in meeting rooms boardrooms and shared spaces including video conferencing equipment displays audio systems and room peripherals. Familiarity with Microsoft Teams Rooms Zoom Rooms integrated room control and video distribution systems.
Certificates and/or License(s)
- Microsoft 365 Certified: Administrator Expert or similar certification preferred.
- Comp TIA Network is an asset.
