Structural Engineer Municipal Water and Wastewater

Hatch is currently seeking a highly motivatedStructural Engineerto join our Project Delivery Team in Mississauga with a focus on Water Projects.
TheStructural Engineerwill be part of an engineering team providing engineering services to municipal water and wastewater infrastructure projects across North America. The incumbent will participate in a wide range of projects involving treatment facilities pumping stations reservoirs underground chambers maintenance holes process buildings shafts tunnels conveyance systems and other municipal infrastructure assets.
Activities include planning studies site investigations condition assessments structural analysis and design rehabilitation design and construction support for both front-end planning and detailed engineering phases of multidisciplinary projects. TheStructural Engineeris responsible for preparing engineering calculations engineering input into drawing production technical specifications reports and design criteria. The successful candidate will be expected to independently deliver structural engineering assignments provide technical guidance to junior staff and coordinate with multidisciplinary project teams. The incumbent reports to the Lead Structural Engineer on large projects and to the Project Manager or Engineering Manager on smaller projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Engineering Manager Project Manager or Lead Structural Engineer with the delivery of project requirements as they relate to scope cost schedule quality and risk management.
- Lead small to medium-sized structural assignments and discipline scopes on multidisciplinary projects managing scope cost schedule and quality.
- Independently perform structural analysis and design of reinforced concrete structural steel masonry and foundation systems for water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
- Perform and lead the structural design of treatment facilities pumping stations reservoirs tanks process structures underground chambers shafts valve chambers maintenance holes and conveyance-related structures.
- Prepare engineering calculations for new structures and modifications to existing facilities.
- Prepare technical specifications design criteria reports and contract documents.
- Review geotechnical reports and coordinate foundation design requirements with geotechnical engineers.
- Prepare and contribute to condition assessment reports rehabilitation studies technical memoranda and engineering evaluations.
- Coordinate structural engineering activities with civil mechanical process electrical geotechnical and architectural disciplines.
- Participate in and contribute to interdisciplinary design reviews constructability reviews and value engineering workshops.
- Review and resolve structural design issues throughout the project lifecycle.
- Provide engineering support during construction including review of shop drawings RFIs contract submittals site inspections and construction clarifications.
- Perform site visits to client facilities for review inspection assessment and data collection.
- Provide input to engineering operating and capital cost estimates.
- Assist in defining project scope preparing proposals and developing work plans.
- Work to ensure the implementation of safety-in-design principles and compliance with Hatch Health Safety Environment and Community (HSEC) requirements.
- Promote compliance with applicable engineering codes industry standards and Hatch procedures.
- Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and designers through design reviews technical oversight and professional development support.
- Stamp documents and drawings where appropriately licensed.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- Bachelors degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from an accredited university.
- Registered Professional Engineer (.) in Ontario or eligible for immediate registration.
- Minimum 8 years of relevant structural engineering experience.
- Demonstrated ability to independently execute structural engineering assignments with minimal supervision.
- Experience in the planning analysis design and construction support of reinforced concrete and structural steel structures.
- Experience delivering municipal infrastructure industrial and/or water and wastewater projects.
- Strong understanding of Canadian and Ontario design codes and standards including CSA A23.3 CSA S16 NBCC and OBC.
- Experience preparing engineering calculations technical specifications reports and design deliverables.
- Experience with structural analysis software such as SAP2000 Mathcad or similar tools.
- Experience reviewing and interpreting geotechnical reports and applying recommendations to structural designs.
- Experience designing shallow and deep foundations including pile-supported structures and underground infrastructure.
- Experience with condition assessments and evaluation of existing infrastructure.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary design environments.
- Strong communication planning organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and priorities while maintaining budget quality and schedule commitments.
- Strong client focus and commitment to technical excellence.
Preferred
- Demonstrated experience in water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
- Experience acting as structural discipline lead on multidisciplinary projects.
- Demonstrated mentoring technical leadership and team development abilities.
- Experience with treatment plants pumping stations reservoirs tunnels shafts and underground structures.
- Experience with wastewater/environmental infrastructure design codes and standards including CSA S900.2 and ACI 350.
- Experience with existing structure modifications and rehabilitation projects.
- Experience with Design-Build and Alternative Delivery projects.
- Experience in Autodesk Revit and BIM-based project delivery environments.
- Experience coordinating supervising or reviewing the work of engineers EITs designers or technical staff.
- Familiarity with anchored systems steel connection design and specialty concrete structures.
- Experience in Bluebeam Revu.
Base salary range: $89000 - $138000
At Hatch we are committed to fair and equitable compensation accordance with legislated pay transparency requirements the expected salary range for this position is based on current market data and aligned with internal pay structures to ensure consistency and fairness.
