About the role:

Reporting to the Executive Director Strategy Communications & Stakeholder Relations the Strategy Planning & Corporate Reporting Specialist is responsible for supporting the planning development and execution of OPBs annual business planning process Annual Report and related corporate communications materials. Combining strategic thinking storytelling and strong analytical skills they will synthesize data and insights from across the organization to form meaningful narratives that support the advancement of organizational priorities.

A strong relationship-builder who thrives in a collaborative environment the Specialist provides expertise and coordination to support the implementation and monitoring of the strategic plan aligning business priorities with resourcing requests to strengthen business planning. Leveraging a proactive approach they will anticipate needs opportunities and challenges to streamline processes and drive efficient and effective outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develops a variety of strategic communications materials including communication plans key messages briefing notes speaking points email communications and stakeholder responses.
  • Builds strong trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders including the executive leadership team (ELT) fostering collaboration and consistent messaging across corporate initiatives.
  • Provides strategic communications advice and recommend innovative audience-focused approaches that effectively inform engage and influence diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Analyzes communication effectiveness using data feedback and insights to continuously improve strategies streamline processes and enhance impact.
  • Collaborates with business partners and external vendors to support the development and delivery of digital communications products and engagement tools.
  • Supports the implementation of OPBs strategic plan including updates as required and external reporting on progress.

Specifically this role:

Supports the annual business planning process including:

    • working with the EVP & Chief Pension Officer and Executive Director to facilitate strategic planning sessions to help ELT set their priorities for the upcoming year ensuring alignment with OPBs broader strategic objectives;
    • contributing to the development of the business plan by gathering and compiling submissions across business units to formulate a clear cohesive and compelling strategic narrative that compliance with government reporting requirements;
    • ensuring the Business Plan complies with all government reporting requirements for Agencies; and
    • developing project plans managing timelines to proactively drive deliverables

  • Works closely with the EVP & Chief Pension Officer and Director External Communications & Digital Strategy on the development of OPBs Annual Report including
    • providing strategic guidance compliance editorial and project management support on OPBs cyclical annual report submission and member communication activities in partnership with the executive leadership team (ELT) management and external vendors; and
    • coordinating content review approvals and implementation activities ensuring high-quality submissions and seamless execution of planning and communication initiatives.

Key Qualifications:

  • A degree or diploma in a communications discipline (journalism public affairs) or relevant field such as public policy business administration or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Experience supporting the development and implementation of strategic communications strategic planning strategy development including defining strategic objectives aligning business priorities and managing resourcing requirements.
  • Excellent written verbal and presentation skills with demonstrated experience writing corporate communications materials including briefing materials reports and presentations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build trusted relationships with executives stakeholders vendors and business partners across all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated understanding of public issues and trends and ability to analyze implications to OPB knowledge of government processes familiarity with public sector environment in Ontario.
  • Strong project management capabilities to manage competing priorities and adjust approach with shifting priorities.
  • Experience in the pensions or financial services industry with working knowledge of investment management is considered an asset.
  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills required to research and identify emerging issues challenges opportunities for corporate communications and determine the most effective approach and tactics for the audience and objectives.
  • Strong Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word PowerPoint Excel etc.)
  • Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma methodology is an asset.

Compensation:

  • The target hiring salary for this position is $95000. A candidates placement in the range is based on skills knowledge experience and internal equity with consideration for how the candidate is developing meets or exceeds the roles requirements. This position is eligible to participate in OPBs Annual Incentive Program subject to its terms and conditions.
