Job Summary

Reporting to the Supervisor Stations the Co-op Student will support experienced Substation Technicians in the maintenance testing inspection and troubleshooting of electrical substation equipment while gaining practical utility industry AND RESPONSIBILITIESBe familiar with all safe work practices as set out by IHSA the Ontario Electrical Safety Code and company standards and work in conformity alongside experienced Substation Technicians to gain practical hands-on experience in the operation inspection maintenance and construction of electrical substation exposure to a variety of low medium and high voltage electrical equipment and have the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge in a utility the direct supervision and guidance of qualified personnel the student will assist with planned maintenance activities inspections electrical testing equipment troubleshooting documentation and general substation with preventative and corrective maintenance in the maintenance and testing of power transformers circuit breakers switchgear disconnect switches power fuses lightning arresters and battery and interpreting electrical schematics single-line diagrams wiring diagrams and equipment routine housekeeping to maintain a clean and organized work an understanding of utility work practices safety procedures switching and isolation practices and work protection and be familiar with isolation and grounding and bonding understand and comply with Ontario Traffic Manual Field Book 7 IHSA OHSA Reg. 22/04 and other policies and to other areas within Elexicons jurisdiction to respond to emergency trouble calls and substation duties as required may be considered part of these employees are required to participate in safety training and to be well-versed in the companys safety rules and practices.
