Provide quality and cost effective real estate services and strategiessupporting Hydro Ones transmission and distribution business. Protectand enhance the value of the Corporations real estate and facilityassets and pursue external revenue opportunities.
Job Description
Specific Accountabilities
Through collateral relationships with respect to the Vice-PresidentLands Buildings Services and Security develop implement and monitorreal estate and facility programs and services which directly contribute
value to the business strategies of Hydro Ones transmission anddistribution business.
Direct Output Support to the Vice-President
- Prepare 2-5 year specific asset strategies and implementationplans for Hydro One lands buildings and facilities in line withchanging client needs in the transmission and distribution business
- Manage and provide leadership for Hydro Ones real estate andfacilities through approximately 35 staff in the following functionalareas: Corridor Land Management Rights Acquisition Leasing Aboriginal
Lands Employee Relocation Property Tax Records and Facilities
- Deliver real estate and facility work programs and set prioritiesto make use of workforce pool
- Ensure effective management systems are in place for health andsafety the environment and the financial resources associated withHydro Ones real estate and facilities.
Direct Output/Delegated Direct Output
- Manage the real estate acquisition rights programs and projectsfor the transmission and distribution business. Oversee the negotiationstrategies policies and settlements with landowners First Nations andgovernment entities.
- Plan direction and act as the key service provider representativefor Hydro Ones contract with the provincial government for themanagement and leasing of corridor lands. Manage the secondary use land licensing and easement programs to external customers including thetechnical lines and environmental assessments.
- Recommend and implement an investment program (capital andoperating) for Hydro Ones real estate buildings and facilitiesoptimizing their use for clients and enhancing value.
- Negotiate new and renewal commercial/industrial space leases andterm land agreements e.g. occupations on railway property. Oversee thepayment and auditing function associated with these agreements.
- Provide cost effective specialized real estate services in theareas of property assessment and taxation employee relocation lowvoltage inquiries rights management records and inventory managementincluding mapping and Geographical Information Systems (GIS)implementation.
- Develop monitor and be accountable for the real estate/facilitybusiness plans and budgets.
- Respond to public and external issues with respect to Hydro Oneslands and buildings.
- Meet transmission and distribution client needs by setting andconsistently meeting performance standards by being able to adjust tochanging requirements and by monitoring performance and clientfeedback.
Managerial Accountabilities
Manage the unit and achieve the approved programs and targetedresults through:
Maintaining a team of subordinates who are capable of producing theoutputs required:
- ensure subordinates are able and willing to produce the desiredoutput and that subordinate managers continually improve the processesfor achieving the outputs
- assess staff capability to do the required work now and in thefuture
- conduct personal effectiveness reviews of subordinatesmanagers/specialists to build relationships and trust and to improveeffectiveness
- mentor and counsel subordinates-once-removed
Accountability for the outputs of others:
- set the appropriate context for subordinates (i.e. corporatestrategies and policies accountabilities tasks budget and programscompliance and performance targets expectations for continuous
improvement etc.)
- set an effective framework of policies and procedures for thework of the unit
- know and ensure own and subordinates compliance with all legaland regulatory requirements and all corporate policies and proceduresand generally accepted practices relating to the work of the unit
- establish a two-way working relationship with subordinates tosolicit their views on conditions and potential changes effecting theirwork and continuous improvement opportunities
Providing leadership to subordinates so that they collaboratecompetently and with full commitment with each other in pursuing thegoals set:
- translate the corporate goals and objectives into a directionwhich guides the work of the unit
- communicate that direction to all staff
- define specific tasks for subordinates which are required toachieve desired results and/or to accommodate changes required withinthe business operations
- communicate expectations regarding the collateral relationshipamong subordinates
Providing a safe and healthy work environment:
- provide subordinates with appropriate knowledge skillsinformation work procedures and equipment to facilitate responsiblebehaviour which will protect their safety and contribute to their health
- provide a work environment and facilities where health and safetyincidents are minimized
- provide a work environment that supports and values diversityand is free from harassment
- know and ensure subordinates comply with all legal and regulatoryrequirements corporate policies and procedures and generally acceptedpractices relating to their work
Demonstrating stewardship of the assets and resources:
- ensure every reasonable precaution is taken for the protection ofsubordinates the environment and the assets
- provide for security of human and physical resources includinginformation

The base salary for this role considers a variety of factors including candidates knowledge skills experience education and any applicable collective agreement requirements for union-represented positions.
